Errant Rear Parking Sensors

Through winter or wetter periods, when starting the car I get a long tone to signal there is an issue with the rear parking sensors. It doesn't happen all the time and through the warmer months virtually never happens.
When it does sound the parking senors are turned off automatically, I can of course switch them back on again only to hear the same long tone. If I don't get the tone, they work perfectly.
I'm guessing it is something to do with them getting wet but is there a way of making sure it doesn't happen, can they be water proofed or better protected? or is it possible to test which of the 4 sensors it is that is making it happen?

I had something similar on a 2007 P3 Volvo V70, which I think uses similar sensors; someone had lost the sealing gasket between the plug and the sensor when investigating and fixing a sensor failure for me. Problem didn't manifest itself until winter.
As the gasket was part of the plug on the harness I couldn't easily obtain a replacement so I managed to find a suitable-sized O-ring that made the seal when I fitted it to the sensor then forced the plug to latch into place. Problem solved and lasted years.

My parking sensors are throwing a wobbly too, 2010 V8V.
Into reverse, long tone with parking sensor light flashing. I had the parking sensor unit replaced a few years ago when I was in a similar situation. Surely it can't need replacing again. Parking sensors on my 20yr old 911 work fine and haven't needed replacing.
Is there anyway I can test what's at fault or is off to the stealer.

The Foxwell NT530 diagnostic tool will show which sensor is faulty and show the distance measured by each sensor.Into reverse, long tone with parking sensor light flashing.
