Drive into someone, drive off, get reported for failing to stop.
Don't fret, just claim you can't remember. Even if you're a Police Officer, in a Police car, with a Police dashcam, and there's another officer in the passenger seat...

Even if the driver genuinely had medial episode of somesort, why didn't the other officer immediately tell him to pull over & stop?

If he crashed into me, I would be contacting the DVLA saying that the Officer is medically unfit to drive.

I'm not very convinced by their photo of a BMW X5 in that article!

That is ridiculous, ridiculous that he shrugged it off and drove on and ridiculous that the investigation didn't result in him being penalised.

AV63NPG I think?
MOT expired 2021, Mileage 187553 at last MOT.
EDP are clearly using an old library photo shopped onto a pic of the road.
Can't Imagine Norfolk/Suffolk Roads policing/ARV have any X5s of that era still around.
I live in Norwich so often see the ARVs around and the X5 is still their vehicle of choice though they like the odd Volvo too.

If officers are two up in a car and are involved in an accident, all the driver has to do to comply with the law is to stop the vehicle, give his details to the other occupant and then drive on.

Odd that that option wasn't tried here.

The defence is a common one for FtS offences, and it is frustrating for officers when a clear cut case falls at the first hurdle. For a copper to use it - if one accepts the questionable premise that he's not being honest - is the most irritating aspect of this.

Burning question for me is how did he manage to rear end a car travelling at ~50mph? Did he fall asleep at the wheel?

Is it corruption to raise a successful defence to a criminal act?

Last person I know of that said they didn’t remember had their licence suspended on medical grounds.

Would an officer witnessing an RTC not automatically request a breath sample from the driver, too?

That is shocking. From both of them.

There's absolutely no shame in calling in a PVA. Why NEITHER shouted up or the passenger challenged. Sorry it harms the reputation of those that sweat blood and tears for the job.

Yes it does....but it's not a sign of corruption.

The driver raises a defence, and might even get medically retired.

The passenger, who hasn't committed any offences, gets to face an disciplinary.

Not forgetting the drivers carrying a gun. If he cant remember hitting another car at speed, can he still be trusted with a gun? Its baffling why this wasnt called in straight away by the observer - if not the driver - what on earth were they thinking. Failing to stop at a Polac was a straight disciplinary

He's not...

he has had his firearms and driving permits revoked and is working in an "administrative" role.
