apparently they are opening one in manchester. Had always assumed it was stupendously expensive and full of... characters. However, it's £1800 a year, so £150 a month. I could be missing something but that's 'only' the same price as a david lloyd membership? However looks a lot nicer, by far. I've also been trying to find somewhere to work from in the city centre a few days a month, so it sounds like that would fill that brief too... through some lens it would seem actually fairly good value..
Is anyone a member on here? Any considerations / downsides?
thanks

Do you have someone “in house” to support your application?
Couple of friends are members through work - one in media, the other through getting supported after spending a fortune going to soho farmhouse as a non member and getting friendly with the senior team.
From what I hear - it’s not bad for what it costs.

I’ve been on the wait list for Manchester for 12 months now. Been to a few in London with friends and had a great time.
Like you I will use every now and again to work from, and also using a couple abroad while travelling for work.
Not 100% sure if I’ll get the nod, as I’m not in media/culture etc but worth a shot.

didn't realise the wait list was out that long! I've been on the list to hear more when the proper announcement came out certainly. Yes I am not really a creative industry guy either. I am assuming they will either be deluged with enquiries or it might be fairly quiet to begin with as private members clubs are not really a very manchester thing on the whole. You won’t find more
s in one place. Well, the London outposts I expect may top it, and the Ned takes the crown.
It really depends what you want, I don’t think any of these places want people sitting there in laptops all day. Hence they have soho house works or whatever w
k it is. Ultimately it will be filled with second rate media types who didn’t make it in London doing gear in the bathrooms.

As I live just a ten minute drive from Babington House, I go there almost daily. I don't however visit other 'houses' much and they have quite a different vibe to Babington I think. Because I use it so much, particularly swimming with my lad (he also has child membership) I think it's good value.
One thing to consider though is that the food and particularly the drinks - are fairly expensive, though certainly not poor value considering the quality, service and setting.
It can be a lovely place to get some work done, but it's not particularly set up for that and I personally wouldn't want to be reliant on working from there too much.

It’s one of the least exclusive clubs there is by virtue of them having them bloody everywhere. That whole creative schtick is old hat, they’ll take all sorts of different jobs. Some of the other clubs I don’t doubt are far more picky.
Another mate is a member at the RAC and while it doesn’t help OP - it’s crazy how cheap food and drink is there vs Soho House/Farmhouse, it’s not really subsidised at all it feels vs somewhere like RAC.

so you'd say it's definitely more social and not really a work sort of place... this could be my ignorance here then! If they tend to frown on people doing a day's work from there then it's probs not going to justify itself for me.As I live just a ten minute drive from Babington House, I go there almost daily. Most of the houses are built around social use mainly. They do have soho works locations but these are limited (currently 4 in London only for the UK), you only need Soho works membership to use these, not full Soho House membership. You cannot for example use your phone in most locations, so you’d have to go outside/reception which might not be great depending on the nature of your work. I personally wouldn’t feel comfortable sitting there on my laptop all day in most of the houses - but that’s less of an issue at Babington because it’s so big and has multiple areas where you could do some quiet work.
We've one in Chiswick, a friend (soon to be business partner) is a member and we hold our meetings there. It's ideal for this as it's quiet and informal.
The brasserie on the ground floor is open to the public and for socialising I prefer it especially the ourdoors.
Not sure I'd want to be a member since "my crowd" are probably not the target market.
