At what point are you offered an SAC? I’ve had 2 lots of SP30s since 2020 and wasn’t offered one either time. Just received another NIP (this time met police, 63 in a 50mph) and no mention of the SAC - if I’m offered one would it be after I send back the NIP with my details?

You have received the NIP as the registered keeper. The offer (if available) is after you have returned the details that identify the driver. Only then can they determine if the identified driver is eligible for a SAC.

A choice that you don't have. Sending the S172 back doesn't incriminate you.

ETA it's speed not safety awareness course although the latter would be better

I would think with 2 x SP30s on your license you won't be offered a SAC, but you will only find out after you return the paperwork.

I think they’re generally keen to get people on SACs if it’s at all possible as it funds the schemes. If it’s a fixed penalty or fine then the money goes the central Government.

The OP seems to be a perfect example of where some education might be useful!

Criteria will be below the speed threshold (42 and below is the limit in a 30) and having done one in the last three years.

Doesn't matter if you have 12 points already, zero, passed your test the day before or are a provisional license holder.

Unless the offense was in Dorset as they only count SAC's in their area.

Ask me how I know this biggrin

Shouldn't it be: "and not having done the same one in the last three years"?

Maybe it's changed but there wasn't any national database of speed awareness course attendance so it was always down to invitees to be honest.

I think there must be some database.

I got an SAC for 57 in a 50 on 30/6/2020. My previous SAC was 2012.

I then got a NIP for 36 in a 30 in September 2022 (I am good at being 1mph over the point at which they don't prosecute!).
Returned the form as requested and was given a £100 fine and 3 points.
No mention of another SAC. I would have taken it had it been offered.
Every day's a school day.
The slight irony was I was on my way to Cadwell Park for a track day smile

You've been caught so it's too late to incriminate yourself smile
Unless someone else was driving just fill in the S172 and if you're eligible for an SAC you'll get the option.
From looking on t'internet looks like 64 and below in a 50 you'll be offered an SAC.

Irrespective of who was driving it is still the OP's responsibility as the keeper to fill in the S172 part

Yes, he should be offered a course at 63 if eligible
