Kia Soul, currently with my mechanic getting a new clutch. He called me to ask if i could source a couple of pinch bolts for the lower control arms as he had to use a grinder to get them off. While I was in the motor factors getting them he suggested i should get a couple of litres of gearbox oil so he could change it while he was under the car.
2 litres of gearbox oil apparently made from unicorn tears + 2 pinch bolts = 67 quid eek

If you have the ability to shop around you can usually get oil that matches the requirements from someone like Mannol for a fraction of what a high street factors will charge. ZF Lifeguard 6 fluid was crazy money back when it could only come from ZF but it's little more costly than a modern synthetic engine oil now.

Console yourself with the fact it's much cheaper than a dead gearbox hehe

Unfortunately time was of the essence as my mechanic was hoping to get it done on Saturday so had to just buy from the local place.
Although that plan went to pot when he damaged the crank position sensor, then one of the abs rings fell apart, whilst i had a new cv joint purchased ready for one side, the other side wasn't expected to be an issue.
Seeing as the job is going so well he's now discovered neither of the cv joints want to come off the drive shafts so I've had to order 2 new abs rings in the hope it's easier to replace those rather than the cv joints.

£32.54 for 2 litres for an R60 Countryman at my Mini indy last week. Barely noticed the cost amid a clutch/flywheel change, but that's another story...
