A warning if your are older and holidaying in Tenerife. I thought I was savvy regarding getting ripped off but no I got caught.

BBC website informing that a gang of Asians have been ripping off holiday makers in Tenerife. People have lost thousands of pounds taken from their bank account, we were lucky? Only cost €80.

Walking along main drag and got hooked into shop, I had bought another charger for I pad, we have iPhones and I pads and only one charger so bought another. Salesman offered to sell us a generic tablet that had all the tv channels, illegally, we had reserved an apartment for next year so was persuaded by SHMBO to buy. It is worth £200 in UK I was informed. Against better judgement I bought this piece of st at €80.

Afterwards realised I had been conned, too late I had shook hands on the deal. I was fizzing!

Back in UK tried to sell it, was offered £20 by local company that specialises in second hand electrical goods.

Trying to think how to get even, take it back to them and ask them if they are willing to buy, painting pavement outside their premises with “scammers are us” . Getting fake euros to buy an i pad in the shop?

I am fizzing, I thought I was too switched on to get ripped off, apparently not.

Shop is on avenue los Americas, west of Pandora’s

my parents bought a digital camcorder a good few years back, truly awful and paid over £100.
an electronics shop at Parque Santiago apartments, stay away as I'm sure they will still be doing the same with whatever is the latest gadget.

Man tries to buy illegal item to swerve legitimate cost.

I think this is the perfect summary.

Commiserations on your gullibility OP.

However, as you are going to Tenerife next year I have some beans you can buy and you would not BELIEVE what happens when you plant them in that volcanic earth.

To you, 50 quid.

You knowingly tried to buy something that claimed to illegally give access to a bunch of pay TV channels and are now complaining that they ripped you off

It’s very much like complaining that the stolen car stereo you bought down the pub doesn’t work

Maybe stand outside their shop and paint “scammers” on the pavement whilst wearing a sandwich board that says “I am complicit in criminal enterprise and quite probably organised crime”

That’s sure to “learn” them

That's one of the most un-savvy stories I've ever read.

So, you bought a random tablet off some random for £68, and then you tried to sell said random tablet to a random place in the UK, and they still offered you £20?

And you're thinking about, amongst other things, getting... fake euros... to scam the seller out of an iPad?

Are you OK?

There was a programme advertised to be on TV this evening, about holiday scams... probably taken from on there... it's a highly improbable story.

Then again hehe.

Get your facts right before criticising, it did happen I bought it so that I could watch British TV when I was in Tenerife in 2024. No intention of using it in UK. No need to, have Sky subscription which gives me access to what I want in UK.

Which is illegal... no matter what you pay in the UK.

You got scammed while in the process of trying to scam the BBC / Sky.

Nice one.

Paid £80 brand new and offered £20? Sounds like typical CEX/ cash converter margins, where they will punt it on for £50-60 as a used item. Seems a fair offer.

Can't see how this is a scam?

I’m sure the OP has reviewed the acceptable use policies of iPlayer, as well as the relevant Spanish and EU broadcast and copyright laws. so it’s fine.
