Hi

the 4 year service of my 991.2 GTS is coming. Two options:

1, go to Porsche East London and do the service there (£2k).
pro: the car stays full stock and with full Porsche service

2. go to Litchfield, do the service + ECU remap to 532bhp there (£750 + £750 = £1.5k)
pro: more power and less of a ripoff than OPC.

What would you do?

Would resale value be negatively or positively or not really impacted by the service + remap at Litchfield instead of the OPC service?

thank you

Ben

I think Litchfield are a great business and were I an earlier McLaren owner I would unquestionably use their services ... in fact I'd probably buy the car from them.

For me there are two parts to this question ...

1. How much better is an OPC service history than a good independent once out of warranty ?
2. What effect will making a used car non standard have on future values ?

How much use may you make of the potential power increase ? Are you happy to save on servicing to possibly narrow your future sale value and how much further may this narrow with the modification ?

I have a substantially modified GT4 which I have owned from new and have never for a single second regretted the mods that I have paid for ... but in general modified cars may be worth less than an unmodified one so it's better an "eye's open" exercise IMHO smile

P.S. Also ... how much better may a trusted specialist service be than an OPC service ? My experience with OPC has been very mixed ... a feeling also that I am primarily a revenue stream rather than a fellow car enthusiast ...

Option 2 Litchfield a no brainer (for me).

The modifications do narrow the potential audience for resale BUT other side of coin is quality outfits such as Litchfields upgrades are growingly regarded favourably in UK and worth a premium if you do ever sell. This isn’t just up the boost. Iain Litchfield dailies a 991.2 and has used his own 991.2 as a rolling test bed to see what works on upgrading a 991 and what does not. You’ll not only get more horses but more importantly more torque which makes your 911 even more useable on road. A GT3 or 458 will not see which way your 911 has gone after Iain finishes with it smile

this is the realistic approach - lots of questions only you can answer, and in the light of the economics of what your car may be worth when you come to move on - I don't know if a GTS needs to be faster, there is of course, plenty of metal that is faster, but overall...

If I wanted and valued the warranty - there's only one choice.
once a car is out of network and serviced independently, there are a handful of well known names for 911, and using any of them is likely to be well trusted by any informed buyer

I have found after 17 years of driving premium cars, where the car was serviced is irrelevant once out of the warranty period- as long as you have a record of the work done. This includes me selling privately and on one occasion selling through a specialist dealer on sale or return (I could not be bothered to deal with the idiots and dreamers).
My experience when buying- Cars that stay with official agents tend to have the right stamps but people skimp on the recommended jobs due to cost. The cars with the specialist service record are almost always better looked after.
If you are keeping the car for a few more years save yourself a fortune is my advice- get it serviced at a good indy. However, modified 911s can be harder to sell. Unless it really appeals to the buyer it doesn't add value and would put off a lot of buyers.

Unless the car is on OPC warranty - which is an excellent product/service from personal experience - Litchfield.

I think most people will say the Litchfield option, but in reality how many would actually do it with their own car? If the PDK or engine or almost anything goes bang you're on your own in a car worth 80-100k.

Also I think resale will be very negatively affected. It makes me think twice when looking at R35 GTRs, let alone Porsches.

With that in mind.... I'd go the Litchfield 530bhp option as well smile

If it goes bang I’ll have it rebuilt. I have a manual gearbox, so at least no PDK worries. Basically, it’s a bargain sports classic, but without the horrible fake Fuchs wheels. LOL
