can somebody put my mind at rest i'v e owned my chimaera for just over a week, the previous owner informed me that oil pressure averaged 45psi ive driven it 150 miles on the motorway and pressure is dropping, down to <30psi is this normal or should i try and find some mobil 1? and where can i buy mobil 1, 5_50w?

It's all down to the individual car. Mine is at 45PSI whilst driving it cold. Once it's up to normal temperature it falls down to around 30PSI and 15PSI at tickover. If the ambient temperature is high it falls even further.

The most important thing is that it gives consistent readings.

You can't get Mobil 1 5W50 here, but if you nip off to France you can get Mobil 1 5W40 for £22 a gallon, so get yourself off on a booze cruise!

ps. a respected Rover V8 engine builder told me you shouldn't use light synthetic oil in these engines: go for something nearer to a 20W50 with good detergent properties.

Basically, if it ever drops anywhere around 20 or below, THEN start to worry. If your on the M-Way around the 30psi mark should be ok. As for the oil, Mobil 1 motorsport is available from Halfords, the bigger stores normally.
