Been swithering over getting an older barge for general longer distance driving / hauling duties. General market was pretty uninspiring locally for budget options. Unfortunately my local OPC gave me a '72 plate Cayenne as a service vehicle and that sent me down the Autotrader trail to see what was available for older models.

Ended up making a deal on a reasonably well kept '62 plate with 71k miles. Rather a lovely place to be inside as the original owner went spec daft with full extended leather, 4 zone climate control, light package, crests on seats, sporty design package on the exterior and lit sills. No real plans for upgrades although the exhaust tips could do with replacing as the corrosion has started to eat them. Will do nicely to keep the mileage on the Boxster down a bit.

And the loaner from the OPC which was rather nice.

Oh yeah. Pics from when I picked it up so hadn't had a chance to give it a really good clean, feed the leather etc.

Dealerships really do a half-azz job on detailing and car prep these days.

Looks very nice OP, and a great 2 car garage.

Forgive my ignorance, is your Cayenne petrol or diesel?

Ah, it's the diesel. Just the base 3.0 liter V6.

No “just” about it. I bet a torquey and relaxed diesel suits the Cayenne well. You’ve got the lower, lighter Boxster for going quickly.

No, it suits it very well. The older Triptronic gearbox is pretty lazy as well but really don't need the PDK that the later models had.

I am tempted by one similar age and spec as a daily at some stage. Nice wheels.

Looks great Rich! I had one as a loaner a few years ago and I really enjoyed it. I’d love a diesel one as a daily. Pretty much perfect all round daily car I’d of thought!

Did the same last year on a 14 Platinum Edition. 10k miles in and love it. Did the usual servicing and transfer box oil change, and it runs like a dream.

Very nice, I was really hoping to get a black one but pickings were slim. Driveway almost looks like I have a fetish for silver cars. I really don't.

Lack of leaves on the trees and boiler plumage suggests these were taken some time ago or maybe Aberdeenshire is still Baltic at this time year!biggrin

Looks great! These cayennes still look fresh, nice choice!

How’s the satnav - can you do full postcode or was this age still first 4 digits only?

It's full postcodes, but honestly, it's quite dated now and missing lots of new roads.

I just have a mobile phone holder on the air vent and use Waze or Google Maps. Far easier. Although I am tempted to install the Android auto board that you can get for a few hundred quid and retain the same fascia / operability of the original media system.

Been looking at that, but it knocks the nav display out in the cluster, which I find easier to follow than the dash screen.

There is an I pad style version, but not sure it warrants over a grand.

I've not read anything about them knocking out the sat nav?

This is the sort of thing I was looking at.

It switches between the 2 navs by pressing a button. Using CarPlay etc and Google maps don’t come up in the dash cluster.

Heard some versions have issues with Bose amp as well. Not sure they link with reverse camera fitted or need an aftermarket one either.

Well, it's always a risk. Took the car in to sort out the rear wiper not working and a sporadic cornering light error. Ended up with a 5k bill.

all 4 subframe bushes separated
cylinder 3 glow plug fault
rear wiper motor
nsf track rod end
nsf headlight level link damaged, osf and both rear seized
oil leak from engine area
OSR struts leaking

Oil leak turned out to be a nothingburger, but when they were test driving the passenger side rear coil spring broke (it was aftermarket and mismatched) and so I had to replace the two rear springs because of course they only come in pairs.

Ah, wonderful.
