My car is seemingly very broken.... And it appears terminal.

We're moving abroad and buying a car for 3 months seems plain silly as well as expensive, unless you buy a banger and take the risk with that...

Are there any rental companies renting cars for say, £100 a week?

Cheers

Not a chance, you’ll be lucky to get one for a couple of days for £100 now.

Find someone who wants to sell their car to WBAC. Offer them the same price WBAC have offered. When you're ready to move, sell the car to WBAC for about the same in three months. Should be stress free and you'll likely lose less than renting for £1200.

This way you can have any size car you can afford to buy outright rather than some crappy rental car.

Europcar seem about the cheapest rental co for monthlies still. That being said they’re still £700+ for a fiat 500 per month.

VWFS and Volvo also do monthly rentals but they’re mostly £1k+ per month starting prices.

I was considering doing this a few months ago to get the value I wanted for my previous car, and save on some payments until the new car was going to arrive.

I found that Minis of all cars seemed to be cheap enough to buy with fair mileage and condition, and wouldn't lose much (if anything) over 6 months.

A bit of a scan on autotrader and comparisons to the current WBAC prices is a good starting point. Be prepared to lose a little bit of cash, but it shouldn't be horrendous.

Just buy something sheddy with a long MOT for under £1500 then sell it for the same price.

Just google ‘short lease cars’ and you’ll see a bunch of options. Things about short lease is although the price includes everything like insurance, maintenance, tax etc so you only have to fuel the thing, prices will be higher than what you might be expecting; £400 a month might get you a small hatchback if you find a deal somewhere. Still cheaper than the major rental companies though, IME.

I’ve been short leasing the last 12 months whilst working in Europe and I’ll be doing the same again when I move to NL in a month or two, again for 12 months. Good thing about short leases is after 30 days most will let you surrender the car whenever/at short notice with no charge, in case your plans change.

Not sure where you are based but during the pandemic I rented extra vans from this company as they specialize in high milage vans for long distance couriers
We had at least one van a week for two years and they were very good
https://www.flex-drive.co.uk/

I'm pretty sure they would offer a good rate on a car for a 3 month period

I also know of another company up North call Master rentals

Really struggling here..... We've been offered £1,000 for the Touran. Long shot but does anyone on here have £1,000 car which would get us through the next 3 months reliably? As in a bog standard basic N/A petrol??

Go on eBay. Filter max price £1000. Plenty of stuff comes up with a ticket into 2024.

Seriously, buying is probably the easiest and cheapest option!
(A guy who had done just that because of hire car prices is where I got my current car from)

Plenty of cars at the £1000 mark or so, chances are it'll last the period and you'll get something back - possibly the same, or put it up for £500 and it would be gone in a day.
You might find insurance is easier than you think -my partner's insurers (Sheila's wheels) lets you add and additional car up to 90 days, was £30 for a month for us. Didn't mention this in the documents, I just called and asked!
Cuvva (uses an app...) Is pretty good too, max is 28 days IIRC but no hassle at all to sort out.
Or again, buy and then cancel once you've sold it.

Sorry, no idea - can you message him via his profile? Dunno if you can given your low post count. Let me know and I'll message him on your behalf.

No. Depressing to read that a 500 costs so much, no wonder car insurance is so high if this is typical courtesy car cost. However, do you know, or does a friend know a small independent garage? A visit may result in an arrangement where they will let you use something for three months . The smaller and less corporate the garage, the greater the chance of sensible cost.
