Back on telly, on That's TV (UK).
Never thought I'd see this on telly again, but it started yesterday and the second episode tonight 21:55.

It's also been showing Benny Hill shows for a while too and not so long ago Kenny Everett shows.

Watched the episode where the punkah wallahs go on strike and have to say it was really funny. laugh

I was expecting it to be awful, but I'd forgotten how funny Windsor Davies is.

Look fotward to seeing more.

Seen some benny on that channel. Yes people will say the namby pamby wokerati bbc would never show this stuff but the reality is the picture is so bad they would get complaints about the quality. Nice for nostaglic reasons though.

when Windsor died I downloaded the box set from Netflix I think. There were some genuine LOL moments, but really Windsor carried that show. I thought the rest of the cast were ste.

I used to laugh at this as a kid, mainly Michael Bates as Rangi Ram saying to one of the other punkah wallahs
Don't be such damn clever dicky
And Windsor Davies was brilliant as the Seargeant Major, especially when appearing to burst a blood vessel when going off on one.

I suspect it is somewhat dated now though

Some jokes now not so funny, but in general it's leagues ahead of the crap that passes for comedy nowadays. Davis is brilliant. I saw a docu a while back in which he mentioned how he invented his character for the show, very interesting viewing.

Sean Hughes cast him in an episode of his C4 sitcom and said that he wasn't anything like his TV image. When Davis asked how he wanted his character to be played, Hughes said "Well, I really want Windsor Davis", at which point Davis said "right you are" and went into full-on OTT mode.

was pretty much required viewing in my grandparents house - in fairness it was something that they could relate to (in all aspects)

One if the few things my Dad would watch on TV.

He was in India for a number of years during the end of the war and leading up to Partition.
