Formuler z8 and a decent sub provider is all you need.

I have a "Chromecast with Google TV" and use the app "Tivimate". Works wonderfully but you need your own private IPTV subscription.

I wouldn't trust boxes with it all preloaded.

Nvidea Shield and google for a provider.

What's the pros/cons of a chromecast/firestick Vs a dedicated unit such as formuler z8?

The fire TV stick isn't containing very dodgy software like in the video I posted

As I also mentioned alot of TV's have iptv apps available

What video? The IPTV boxes don't contain dodgy software as far as I can tell.

Z8 box has the best viewing app going. Can also connect a hard drive to it to allow recording and pause /rewind etc.

Any recommendations for an app I can install on Google TV? I never got an with IPTV years ago.
