Auris not having enough demand?

Hi everyone, new to PistonHeads and wanted to create my first post. So here we go

I have been going through some adverts on AutoTrader and CarGuru and have noticed that there are some Toyota Auris hybrids that aren't getting sold, particularly 2018/2019 models. Some have been there for nearly three months. Is it just me or have the demand for these cars really gone down this year?

In case you are wondering, yes I am looking for an Auris 2018/2019 car. This is why I noticed this, but has got me worried a bit.

They were popular fleet cars before the big BIK drop for EVs and more EV's becoming available. Back then it mostly only Tesla's and many fleets avoided them and pushed hybrids.

It may just be that all the fleet cars are now hitting the market and there aren't enough private buyers to soak them up at the prices being attempted.

No harm in massively low balling the dealers and seeing if one just wants shot or some cash flow?

Or at least, you are prepared to be mistaken for a taxi driver and have random drunks trying to get into your car.

I know someone who had an old Prius, the being mistaken for an Uber driver was one of the reasons he bought another car.

Strange, I've an 18 plate auris hybrid, been looking to change to a 20 plate corolla, it's about six thousand to upgrade which I'm not willing to do.

I've about 5 in a watch list, mostly been there for months, no change in price.

A new advert came online yesterday, near to me, had a look at the mot history, advisories for tyres down to cords, and brake discs, I'll not bother.

That is a bit funny and concerning at the same time. I am no taxi driver and wouldn't strangers like that getting in my car like that at night :P Anyway does this mean that Auris is not that popular among non-taxi drivers?

I wonder if the cars not selling have been taxis/ubers and are in poor condition for the age/mileage (if the mileage can be believed) and show up as a taxi when someone runs a vcheck/carverticals/etc check on them.

Also, lots of people are still wary of hybrids and would perhaps feel safer putting their money into a diesel Focus.

You're overthinking, just buy one if you want it, price is neither here nor there, the hybrid battery needs checked yearly, £45 to maintain the warranty.

My friend is willing to buy mine when I do change as he knows it's a good car, 60 mpg on average.

Nobody has ever tried to get in my car at any junction or traffic lights.

Crime.

That's the reason I sold my Auris when it only had 60k miles on it, it would have easily run to 200k.

You are virtually guaranteed to have the catalytic converter stolen. When it is, breakdown recovery won't come out as it's a theft not a breakdown.

So you have to pay to have the car transported to a garage to have it fixed. Where it will likely cost £2k to do so for genuine parts. You can use a non-genuine cat but it likely will only last a year.

Then the thieves may just come back, and the process starts all over again.

Cat protection steel shields and tilt alarms are pointless - I paid out for both on my Auris, but it won't stop them.

If you are unlucky enough to catch them in the act, they will bash your head in - as happened locally.

It's a dead model, so not entirely surprising that 3-4 year old examples that are still relatively expensive aren't shifting.

I've been looking at 3/4 year old Lexus NX's and some have sat with main dealers for 2 or 3 months. I don't think it will be reliability concerns with them or risk of cat theft as it is fairly inaccessible on the NX.

Prices may come down but once they are gone, they are gone, as unlikely to be lots more come to market.

Crime and being a dead model has got me thinking a bit. I have been scanning through some Ioniq Hybrid models in the meantime and noticed the same thing. Some ads have been there for nearly four months! Seems it is not just the Toyota hybrids that have lost some demand this year.
