Dear all

I don't have a car at present, my last car was a lotus elise 111s, I don't have loads of cash and I have a new house and baby on way...so it had to go. But I recommend elise ownership to anyone .. so far so normal.

I can't use the lotus brit car bbs anymore (its blocked) so I use pistonheads to keep up with bhp banter and it suits my personal politics of pro safe driving and general normal british (and guests) people who like the UK but do disagree with some issues.

I am an ABD member and will buy a track heap in the new year.

[rant on]

BUT...

Read the cerbera vs exige thread in the elise forum if you dare - at least read the last page ... I have had it with the lotus forums - its full of ..... strange people who dislike the cars, or know nothing about them, or have just bought them and get told to go to the brit car bbs !

Simon elite is the only lotus owner on here whose opinion I respect on matters lotus - (apologies to other former lotus owners who are good guys but we just disagree about lotus)

Read the lotus in formula one thread ... who are these people - what world do they live in !

Enough for me I think - I will stay out of there from now on....

I know this is mostly a TVR site - I would love one and looked at several last year - but come on some respect for another fine british car maker that is doing its best to fight the numpty factor ..

[rant over]

mmm... I've not been reading those threads. Time to take more interest me thinks and ensure the Ph standards are being adhered to!

I know what you mean Gargamel, it's a pretty sad state of affairs. But believe me, the de-facto Elise BBS on british-cars.co.uk has everything you just ranted about but hundreds or even thousands of times worse. It's got so bad over there that I only look once a day and even then I have to search through the bullshit to find anything even vaguely Lotus related.

To be honest with you the attitudes of some Lotus owners is making me want to sell up. The problem is there's no other car within my budget that I would consider to be an upgrade (and I don't want to downgrade!).

I'm off for a think.

Ok, I've just read the later posts in the thread. The question was asked Elise vs Cerbera so most of the contributions have been valid.

That said, I'd like the Lotus forums to share the same (generally) high standards of posting that the other forums here exhibit. The Esprit forum is useful and well behaved, why not the Elise?

bonce - sorry to rant - I know that you are one of the good guys on matters elise - or at least have a sane point of view !

I really liked the brit car bbs for a while - great to have the likes of owen, simon scuffham and characters like rnli and mad scotsmen...
but I agree after a while the trolls got to me too.
Technical side is excellent though!

Some people don't seem to understand that the love they have of their car is the same as others have for their own.

edited cause I'm rubbish at grammar

sorry ted - I disagree

the thread was EXIGE vs Cerbera - I agree some good points early on - but the last few made me dispair

its a rehash of a very stale argument plus that forum is full of people who have a BHP fixation - i am sick of the car being slated every time.

You see,
Us lot on General Gassing are from all different walks of life (Okay, Maybe not THAT different), some people own really nice cars, and people like me just own a mere means of transport.
Everyone has slightly different views on certain topics, and there is always a fresh infulx of new members joining General Gassing, Because they do not feel obliged to own any particular type of car to participate in the discussions.

General Gassing is like a big melting pot of different people, People who own cars from the 5 main sportscar companies: Porsche, Ferrari, TVR, Lamborghini and Vauxhall.

The posts don't get too stale, because there is always more posts added daily.
No offence to the lotus forum.

(merely pointing out the limitations of specialist forums for interesting conversation and not, in any way saying that the people on the Lotus forum are boring)

I'm also fed up of people declaring the Elise is underpowered. In my view it isn't, it does exactly what it says on the tin, and it does it very well. The whole "my car's faster than yours" thing is childish and tedious.
I don't hear people saying that all Caterhams are underpowered even if they run 1.6 versions of the K series, so why should it be different for the Elise.

But I'm not going to get drawn into that argument now, I just want to remind you that if you don't like someone's opinion, ignore them*. It works for me.

* the names of the ignored have been removed to protect the ignorant
