Hi Guys,

Just want some advice on this junction -

The amount of times I have seen cars turning right into the junction then proceed to do a U turn within the junction nearly causing causing cars behind to go in the back of them.
Should people really be doing U-Turns in junctions with cars behind turning into the junction also?

Happens all the time on my school run. A non indicated u turn, often with no brake lights as they swing around really quickly before promptly stopping on the zig zags of a crossing.

You can be following a car before it swings right, goes into the junction and back out over the junction exits, no brakes lights as it’s done so quickly, no indication and they pull out in front of traffic that they’ve just cut in front of.

It’s like a cross between super mario cart and wacky races every day. I get particular frustrated by the young girl driving some massive American left had drive truck who when even parking and blocking the pavement her car is still blocking one lane fully. 2 more years and then my youngest has left school cannot wait.

When doing a U-turn you should give way to (ensure you don't obstruct) cars coming the other way.

However you can't realistically yield to cars following you, so I agree with

Regardless. That's a following car fail for me. If they left appropriate time and space they'd have no issue.
they shouldn't be that close.

Additionally, I suspect that if one paid close attention the U-turning car would have turned 'late' into the junction taking a wide line to make space for their U-turn, which would be a clue as to their upcoming action.

Generally in suburban streets I think you have to expect the unexpected, people will be parking up, turning into and out of driveways, pulling across the road to reverse up a lane etc etc and leave space to avoid a surprise becoming an accident.

Bang on. Assume nothing, keep a reasonable distance and you'll be fine.

This has echoes of people who get arsey if you should dare to do a 180 on a mini roundabout, however slowly you do it and despite indicating.

Yup, agreed. Don’t enter unless you have your car’s space to move into. Same as crossing a level crossing - wait until there is at least your car space AFTER the level crossing.

Just assume the car in front is going to do something unexpected.
