As the title says,

I need some bits from Halfords to fix up an old honda civic before its MOT and I'd rather not pay full price XD (ECP doesn't sell what I'm after) so wondering what people's experiences are of blagging a trade card in 2023 (the forums has extremely old posts about it)

I'm waiting on some cheapo "business" cards coming but surely they'd ask for more than just that? or am I just over-thinking it and they ain't that strict about it? biglaugh certainly the list of what they accept is quite short and a certificate of incorporation isn't listed as a proof (which rules out my usual method of blagging I guess lol)

Not to sure about Halfords, but only 2 weeks ago i went to B&Q and the queues were massive, stuck my head into the trade counter i was passing and asked if they would put my shopping through. Girl asks, are you a trade member, i replied no. Are you eligible for a trade card? she asks. Dont think so i say. (Im not in any trade) Give me 2 minutes she said, and i now have a trade card.

No idea what trade i'm in now lol and no ID given, but they do ask for 2 proofs online.

No harm in asking the Halfords guys to do the same.

Just as an update that may help others in the future

They ask for a payslip, business card, and driver's license, so pretty easy to get - but I am shocked at the discounts, tools I'd save £1 for what I need, and for parts I'd save £10

soo kinda not worth the ink cost of making business cards XD

They include them with some club memberships (I have one from a car club membership), maybe worth seeing if that is an option if you are into the marque biggrin

Otherwise, autodoc if you don't need the bits in a hurry.

I got one, the only thing I showed them was a business card. Since then, I haven't actually bought anything from Halfords. Batteries seem to have a decent discount compared to shelf price, but I haven't compared to ECP recently. Last time I needed one, shelf price was the same as ECP and my mate's trade card brought it down a welcome bit further.

Definitely worth the blag for some of the name brand bits like Yuasa batteries, Bosch wiper blades, and Auto Glym car cleaning gear. I'm pretty sure the discounts on their Halfords Professional tools is still good too, and then you've got the decent warranty to go with them.

Oh, and the trade card now works for online shopping too.

The trade card is worth it. Even if its just for wiper blades and the batteries.

All I did was show my work pass in store.

Simple.
