What is a chav? How to explain to a 10 year old
Discussion
A bit of a odd one, when asked by the kids, "what's a chav?"
As there are rich chavs, poor chavs, chavs of all nations, chavs everywhere, right?
So it's hard to get a definite answer, maybe a 4D mis-spaced number plate with blacked out windows, but could be £90k's worth or range rover, or a £900 Corsa.
It could be Armani sliders, real or fake, with the lips, orange skin and other tat as accessories.
But it seems fairly nebulous... Any easy definitions out there?

The term "chav" is a derogatory slang term primarily used in the United Kingdom. It originated in the early 2000s and is typically used to describe a stereotype of a young person, often from a working-class background, who is perceived as being poorly educated, lower class, and with a particular style of dress and behavior.
Chavs are often associated with wearing sportswear brands, such as tracksuits, baseball caps, and large gold jewelry. They may be seen as being loud, aggressive, and engaging in antisocial behavior. The term is often used in a pejorative manner to mock or criticize individuals who fit this stereotype.
It's important to note that the term "chav" is considered derogatory and offensive by many people. Its usage has been criticized for perpetuating negative stereotypes and class discrimination. It's generally best to avoid using such terms and to treat people with respect regardless of their background or appearance.
Chavs originally were the underbelly of society below that of working classes. You had many working classes having beer fuelled fights at weekends, but many many were fine honest upstanding citizens. Chavs like to cause misery and destruction to others.
However Chav now transcends most social classes - working class Chavs, middle class Chavs, upper middle class Chavs, upper class Chavs. You can often see that in their driving behaviour in cutting people up, barging in etc.
If you remonstrate with a Chav, more fool you. Chavs always have to have the last word, even if they know they are in the wrong and will never admit it. You can punch the lights out of a Chav and they will still be on the floor bleeding and mouthing off - that's why sometimes you see huge screeching matches in public as a pair or group of Chavs try to have the last word.

Council House And Violent. Might be apocryphal, but I thought it was just an abbreviation used by plod or social worker types when filling in incident reports. Probably considered non-PC so not in use today, but the word lives on.
For me, 'Chav' is not the same as 'council'. Council is a mindset and can be found in many wealthy and successful people (mostly footballers & TV celebrities though). Chav is a rejection of society. From a long lineage of unemployed and unemployables, with no respect for the rule of law. They have a uniform, which used to be fake Burberry, and before that fake Gore-Tex jackets. Usually scrawny and pale, due to vitamin deficiencies and a diet of crisps and cheap energy drinks. Have not yet mastered the use of the front wheel on their stolen e-Bike. Feral in nature they congregate in groups, and will aggressively defend their territory when approached. They smoke weed, and are usually attached to some abused and angry land-shark by a heavy chain.

Isn’t chav basically council?
Maybe, however I still ascertain that there are wealthy chavs - so it's more a lack of style and self awareness maybe? Thick eyebrows in this season? Then go for the 3" thick to show how cool you are! Kinda thing?Trouble is, you can spot a chav a mile away, but to define the characteristics into a few short items seems impossible!
