Hi all, any views on the above cars? Look like a nice place to be. Asking for my bro looking for an estate under £9k.

I understand that Merc usually cover the cost of the replacement of the rust-from-the-inside-out rear subframe.
As I suspect the engine is the Evo version of the M271 with a turbo rather than the earlier supercharger, then I gather there are different* issues with the timing chains etc. I note it does have direct injection and if it is pure direct injection, not a combination of port and direct injection, then you may be getting close to some coking up of the inlet valves.

Not sure of exact prices but the subframe would be towards a couple of £K and the timing chain probably a bit more than that.
As said above MB often (but not always, it seems quite random) replace the subframe as goodwill. I would tend to think that as these cars get older and as the one linked has had a few owners, that it could be tricky. It's also possible it might have already been done - it's an issue that it really isn't obvious as they rust from inside so they can pass MOT (even at dealers) and then break a few mths later.
I had a diesel which have duplex chains so I'm less clear on the chain, tensioners (and coking) issues - I just mentioned them as something to be aware of as they seem to crop up a bit on the MB forums.

I'd also say have you got a trusty Merc indie nearby? You ideally need Merc diagnostic kit (or something similar) for these cars otherwise you're shooting in dark with any issues that crop up.
I see that car has an astonishingly clean MOT history! I know prices have gone a but mental but is that really how much these cars ar at 13yrs old now?
A couple of years ago I sold my 2005 C Class Estate that I'd had since it was 5mths old for £800 - every MOT for the last few years had a massive list of advisories. I thought it was just the mental indie but I looked since and its last MOT was similar - in fact with some new issues too.
