Freeview box or bt

So bombed off sky to save some monthly cash
Looking for a freeview Box HD.
But also noticed the bt box I don't want any monthly subscription so can I still use the bt box and all its features or do you need an active subscription? I have bt broadband

Or is it just a freeview box for me if so any recommendations?

I have a BT youview box I purely use for freeview. Its literally a freeview recorder with some BT bespoke apps on
