Well now I know what all the fuss is about. I can't say I was all that convinced when I put down £149 at Brands yesterday for a Zymol starter kit with the Glasur wax. Surely it was all hype I said as I looked longingly towards the Meguires stand (and products at a 1/10th of the price). Anyway today I spent 3 hours washing and polishing my C4S as per the Zymol instructions and afterwards it all makes sense. A freshly Zymoled 911 in atlas grey looks quite amazing in the sunshine and I am really impressed with the results. Having used supposed quality polishes on various cars for years this is clearly a step up on anything else I've used before. And even the process of applying the wax by hand was unique if not slightly weird way to bond with my new car! (Tip for those of us who live in apartment blocks - try not to let the fit chick from apartment 4 see you lovingly applying polish by hand to your car's rear quarter panels - she now thinks I am some sort of automotive pervert....).
Anyway the results were worth it. The car looks absolutely fantastic and I will now not use anything else.
BTW - I had a great couple of hours at Brands yesterday. It was great event with stacks of fantastic cars to see (especially that awesome red GT2).
Cheers,
Loony

Loonycat you wait till you wash the Porsche, comes up a treat everytime! And the beeding effect you get with Zymol is amazing. Remember you can put another layer of Glasur on every 24 hours. 2 layers is better than 1!
I've done 7 layers a few times and have had trouble washing it after it's so waterproof!!!

She's about 5'10'' with sultry Latin looks. She fixes me with her piercing brown eyes, flicks her long brown hair, half smiles and just shifts her stance so her fitted jeans accentuate her long long legs. Then she turns and walks away with the elegance and stature of a super model.
That was before. Now since the rear quarter panel waxing incident, her eyes drop tp the floor and she half runs for an exit when we cross paths, all the while dialling 999 on her mobile......
Alas it was not to be. And her boyfriend has a 996 GT3 RS....

Hi Miracle - thanks for the tip about the extra coat of Zymol. I think it took me a couple of panels to get the texture and quantity right so I could do with going over it again. I haven't driven the car since first coat and it has been under a Porsche cover since - do you think I would be ok to apply another coat straight on it this Saturday (5 days later) or would I need to wash her again?
Ps, I've got your site bookmarked for when the car needs a complete detail!

Hi Loonycat,
Depends on if the car has been inside with the cover on or outside.
To be on the safe side, I would rinse with water and wash with a small amount of Auto bathe, remember to always start from the top of the car and always work in straight lines.
Did you get a Zymol sponge and chamois in your kit?
I was at brands at the weekend, did you see the Yellow GT-3 on AmD's stand I done?

Hi Miracle
I certainly did see the AMD stand and their wicked GT3. I've also seen the photos on your website so know what can be achieved with the right approach. Thanks a heap for the advice - I will give the car a wash before applying the 2nd coat (it's been indoors but best to get these things right) and applying in a straight line is probably the best advice I have received so far. And I thought I knew something about keeping paint in good nic....
Is it sad that seeing water bead off a superbly polished car is one of my favourite moments? I think I need years of therapy..... so do most of you....

That will make me the saddest then!
If anyone can be bothered to wait 15mins or less to see a very sad water beeding video, made by me and one of my customers click on the link below and click the next button once in...

3 layers of Vintage wax on this demonstration, makes me laugh everytime I see it!
7 layers is even more of a joke!
P.s. Zymol does not fix paint defects like swirls marks, I spend 5 hours getting them out, before the Zymol!

Actually I quite enjoyed doing it (he says confirming worst fears of fit chick in apartment 4) and hadn't even heard of applying polish by hand before. Once I got through a couple of panels I learnt how much to use and how long to leave it before buffing off with the Zymol cloth. Great stuff!
Thanks for all the advice on here. I would still be using rubbish stuff from Halfords if I hadn't learnt from reading what you guys had to say!

I now hate zymol. Spent all day applying it to the RS, but the sodding cleanse stuff (brown, smells of marzipan) stuck in little dots on various parts of the car. Pin prick size and they simply wouldn't polish off. I ended up having to use alcohol to remove them and it took HOURS. I only cleansed the roof and bonnet too but dots of this crap got everywhere.
At least the brown speckles seem to be off my nice white paint now. However I applied the wax without cleansing any more panels. Just couldn't face the pain.
Nope, but I did wear the wax as aftershave once.... Rather silly as it's very waterproof (sweatproof) and caused a nasty rash. Smelt lovely though
Miracle/Dan, will the clay bar deal with the little brown marks Dan is on about? I had them on my Boxster and I've got a couple on the 996.

So you got them from the cleanse stuff too?
Hmmm...
Yup, but it just got the swirl marks out of my 996
The previous owner had used a lightly abrasive cleaner in a circular motion. Ouch!
I bet your marks are across the front where they get shotblasted from following other cars. I *think* the clay bar should help get rid of that, but I'll wait till someone knowledgeable comes along
