I am not a fan of all the proliferation of the grey or putty-coloured cars that are all the rage these days. The roads look like black-and -white photos with the hordes of these dull cars.

Maybe we will see a gradual move to brighter colours at all prices!........

Well done Fiat!

So bored with every new car having the choice of 50 shades of resale grey and then just a couple of colourful options. Seems like it's only the higher end manufacturers (McLaren, Bentley, etc) who offer interesting shades of greens, purples, oranges, etc.

Nice. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/fiat-w...

They'll still do black and white, no mention of silver.

In general, I agree that grey has become a cliche and think that immense marketing success, the Fiat 500 should be white with the tricolour ‘ pizza box’ lines on the waist. A has been pointed out on here many times, it is a humdrum car which has the immense merit and draw of looking like an old 500. However, just after reading this news I noticed a lovely 595 Abarth. It was anthracite. So I have wasted three minutes contradicting myself!

Agreed.

My absolute least favourite colour, should be Nardo "fking" grey.

Can't think of a manufacturer that isn't in on it.

Also can't fathom speccing your own car and picking it.

That said my other half has it on her VW, because it was the only free colour.

A good case in point.

Dacia. You used to be able to get the Duster in Red, Blue and a couple of shades of Orange, now.

The only semi decent colour is the green. Such a miserable selection of drab colours.

A case in point? Makes no sense.

Yes. The Khaki green (or Forest green) with the orange accents looks good but the rest is just boring.

Everyone is trying to be grown up and corporate, even on 20k cars, it’s a bit sad.

BMW have some brilliant individual colours but you never see them in real life.

All the actual colours other than green were removed last year.

You can now only buy shades of grey (or green).

I thought the point was quite clear, obviously not.

Good on FIAT.

The popularity of grey cars here is a self-fulfilling concept; the manufacturers don't offer anything else, so naturally it continues to be popular as the consumer has their hand forced.

Frankly I find the colour palettes offered by manufacturers insulting, the range of options is simply too monotone.

I wonder if it's chicken or egg - are British consumers just dull eyed drones who want their car in the same colour as a wet road on a dreary day because conformity matters so don't buy anything else, or is it self fulfilling because it's the only option that isn't white or black?

See also black or "charcoal" interiors. I wonder if they have black furniture with black carpets, black walls, and a black ceiling in their house?! hehe

I have a putty/primer coloured car... the pic is it being delivered, not breaking down. It's at the lighter end of the spectrum, some of the mid to dark flat greys are horrible.

Good on them!

There’s a grey Tipo in the car park at work and it’s the most boring looking thing going. I’d love to see it in the yellow or metallic purple of the 595, it might actually be an interesting car then.

All manufacturers should follow suit and ban the sale of grey or silver cars in my opinion.

The coal hole interior decor was established in the 80s if not earlier, by German marques. Obviously, VW /Audi were pioneers in this. Now, because at that time, they were much above average in quality and the cars corroded less than many contemporaries, other mainstream makers decided that dark interiors were classy. Many buyers found them drab, but the quality myth was perpetuated and successfully milked by VW in their adverts. Brits also had more company cars than most countries, so fleet managers had a cynical eye on resale values.

Quite right, why would anyone want the wrong shade of grey? You’ve nailed it with that one, it’s sort of between white and black. Perfect smile

Suzuki still have a fairly decent range of colours on most of their cars, and other than an occasional silver one it's fairly unusual to see a grey one driving about.
I don't know whether its because the slightly left-field customers they tend to attract like colours other than grey, or whether it's because they continue to bother selling a good bright red and bright blue car which people can tell will be ok from the brochure. Some other the other makes, even when they do offer brighter colours they end up being a really wierd shade so nobody wants to risk buying one.
