Saw this in an art shop and thought i'd give it a whirl. Wasn't expecting much since I'm well aware that "proper" mount cutters cost a lot of money, but figured £20 wasn't a lot to lose.

One mount cutter - cost £16.75:
Mount board - 3 x A0 sheet - £6

set the depth - normal or double:

Cut the aperture to desired size:

Frame, stand back and admire:

It's not perfect but it was my first attempt so I'm happy enough. You get the 45 degree cuts, and a little practice will make me much more adept at this. I'm well pleased, for under £25 I can cut proper mounts for any of my photos that require it, and still have some board left over.

Nice... I can't quite see the manufacturers name... can you buy on-line?

How do you make sure the hole is square? Did you buy some sort of rig or did you use a set square or something??

Answered my question and GetCarters

Hmm.... for an extra few quid I think I would buy the next model up - the 2000 - since it has start stop guides and a retractable blade - two things I've already found annoying by their absence.

Stupid question time...

What does a mount cutter do that a Stanley knife and metal ruler can't?

A simple one like that just makes it easier by holding the blade at a fixed angle.

Leaves fingers attached to hands.
