New i30n Vs fl5 type r
Discussion
I'm right on the cusp of buying one of these two cars and have deals lined up on both. I've not been able to find an fl5 to test drive.
The civic is massively more expensive coming in at £49,000 pre registered by the stealership so I'd be the second owner. The i30n can be had for £17,000 less (first owner) once premium road tax for the Types R is factored in!
Admittedly the i30n doesn't feel expensive inside but it feels fairly well put together. It's good enough for a daily driver.
Is the honda really that much better to justify the difference or likely to hold its value that much better? Both would be cash purchases.
I'm prehaps a bit jaded after my last premium car buying experience resulted in a vehicle rejection.
I'd still be interested is any last minute alternatives suggestions people may have thought I'd want something covered by warranty four seats and doors and would prefer brand new.

i30N is the only car I've sold that I miss. When I went to buy another fun car last year my local dealership gave me a i30N DCT for a 24hr test drive and it really was a fun car, the N-Grin shift is childish but brilliant fun. In the end, I landed on an F-Type as the OH was fond of them and it meant much more support for ongoing car spend!
Having said the above, I think the FL5 is both a generation ahead of the i30N and when it comes to price it's knocking on the doors of the premium hot hatches. I don't know about the Honda but the i30N does come fully spec'd as standard, which is a nice treat after all the other manufacturers started locking everything away in packages of upgrades which ramp up that cost.
I don't think you could get a more fun car for £30k if you're set on something new and hatchback.
If the money isn't an issue and you really want a rocket then I'd set aside the FL5 and get an almost new A45 spaceship.

It seems entirely reasonable to get the f type for the goodwill it will have won you. I'm coming from an a110 but necessity will dictate a four seater in the near future I'm hoping the good will for this now will pay forward. I've had a hypersaloon in the past and it just didn't do it for me. I'm not sure the hyper hatches would be any more alive in the twists. It always felt too big and heavy. I'm hoping one of these two might provide a happy middle ground, fun and practical at the same time. If I had the space to store two cars I'd be going that route now..
I very much like that there are no options on the honda or the i30n -it's lovely!
