I’m after a Golf R32 V6 mark 5, I’ve seen a few for sale on this site but would like some advice on what to watch for.

Timing chains, dodgy noises and clunks from the drivetrain and rust.

Is there an owners forum for them?
If so get yourself on there, I’m sure there will some helpful owners. Maybe even someone can help you view a few examples for sale?
Good luck with search.

Rust on the front wings at the top of the wheel arch as VW fitted water holding sponges behind the liner, this is a mk5 problem on all models.

DSG Mechatronic (clunkly changes particularly coming to a stop) on eariler cars.

From personal experience, the above things plus

Dual Mass Flywheel on a DSG car (rattling noise at idle)
Steering racks failing (knocking noise on rough roads)
CV Boots
Suspension bushes, particularly front lower control arm .

not the most reliable car I have owned, but maybe I had a lemon.

Thanks for the info guys. Appreciated. I have heard that you have to be careful with the rust. What’s the consensus on a Japanese import?
