Triumph 400cc singles

It seems like Triumph will be launching a pair of new bikes at the end of the year in the shape of 2x 400cc singles. A Street bike and a Scrambler. I hope they are priced competively and come in around the 6k mark to be competitive against the likes of the KTM390 and GS310 etc.
I have fallen in love with lower powered bikes recently after buying a Grom and being able to ride it absolutely flat out everywhere. I'd be very tempted by a triumph 400 if the price was right given they are 40bhp and 170kg. https://www.triumphmotorcycles.co.uk/motorcycles/c...

I'd be tempted but also very price dependent. If they are 6k that puts them perilously close to the air cooled Interceptor which has 46hp albeit not as light.

Im hoping they sneak it down nearer 5k. When they launch they always creep up a few hundred after 6 months - the Trident was a tempting 7.2k at launch as is up very near 8k now for instance. So if they were 5.2k they go up nearer 6k after a few months

If I could get one for the lower 5k mark I'd get one. It'd be a Khaki scrambler for me. That said I would imagine they'll be closer to 6k, alas let's see. At that price I can just drop it all onto a credit card and pay it off over a year or so

These are right up my strasse. I’m looking for my first bike and currently doing my DAS.

The Scrambler is looking good for my use case. The 900 twin engine only gives another 24hp. Not sure on torque figures.

The press blurb indicated the 310GS as the target and that’s £6k. So I’d imaging at least that as a starting price. The Scrabler variant is always more with Triumph.

Probably saving that for a small bike one day.

Looks ok, except for the exhaust but probably to small for my 6` 2" height.

59lb/ft Vs 28lb/ft (rounded to nearest integer).

The Hornet needs to be more expensive. IMO at £7K it makes many other bikes seem expensive for what they are. I like the look of the CF-Moto heritage with the enlarged Z650 engine, but someone who's owned an ER-6 and a SV650 told me a few weeks ago it's a boring, uninspiring engine, but list price for the CF-Moto is £6500ish.

The looks of the Hornet aren't doing it for me and in the showroom the CB500F looks better. They're £6K ish so a 500cc parallel twin or a 400cc single? CB500F is 32lb/ft.

Perhaps on PCP monthly repayments £6k for a 400cc single that looks the right way for the buyer isn't too expensive?

Out of interest what do you all think of the Bajaj connection?

They are manufacturing these aren’t they or do I have my bikes mixed up?

Yes same Bajaj factory as the small capacity KTMs. They have an excellent reliability record

My Honda 125R is built in Thailand. It is built extremely well. No issues. But I’m not sure if that is a ‘Honda’ factory. Saying that, aren’t most Triumphs made in Thailand?

Yes, hence why they are called Twiumph now.

Triumph must be seeing that the market is really shifting. I just looked up the top 10 bikes sold in the UK last year and I was surprised to see that Royal Enfield have 3 of the top 10 spots. BMW are the only other over-125cc bikes in the list.

I suspect Triumph are going after a piece of the market that Royal Enfield are doing well in with the new Meteor 350.

Also the new Honda CL500 at 6k, I imagine the scrambler is aimed at competing with that. And the a2 Ducati’s

Plus looking at the mutts the triumphs have that old school look but with a bigger engine and a more trustworthy name.

Assembling only.

The parts will be manufactured in the UK and shipped to Bajaj where they are bolted together before the completed bikes are then shipped back to the UK.

Madness, but cheaper than doing it all in the UK apparently.
