Yesterday I received an email saying I’m having my insurance cancelled. Spoke to 3 different people yesterday, all saying it’s against the car and they are unable to tell me what the problem is. Tried again today, just getting the same answers.

It’s quite odd as I’ve been insured with this company for well over 3 years and have owned the car for 5 years. Never been in an accident either. It’s just come out of the blue.

Where do I take it from here?

Complaint with the ombudsman would be the best bet, seems odd they won't reason it.

I would cancel it myself first.

When you take out new insurance there is a question "Have you ever had an insurance policy cancelled?", it just looks like a trap to me to allow them to charge what they want and as it says "ever" not in the last 5 years of anything it looks like it would haunt you for life.

The insurers complaint process needs to be attempted first.

Is it cancelled forthwith, or are they saying it will not be renewable?

Sounds ridiculous to me (worked for major insurer for 36 years).

You should be given a seven day cancellation notice (they can’t cancel with no notice). So cancel it yourself in say 5 days and insure elsewhere, this will avoid having to declare you have had your cover cancelled. Write as a complaint and say you want to know why this has happened as you are fully entitled to know. Further state you will take it to the ombudsman and seek compensation.

Appalling treatment!!

Make sure you have sent an email or letter (ideally recorded) as this if far easier to rely on down the line than a phone call that they may or may not have recorded and may or may not be able to access. My view is never trust any company when they have done something you don’t like and which may come back to bite you.

Unless OP hasn't given full story then no Insurer will just cancel for no reason without a notice period which will be in the policy t and c.
There are circumstances that exist where an Insurer may cancel " abinitio " ie as though the policy never existed but again there would have been some dialogue first.
OP ,can you paste a copy of what you have received ?

OP, have you phoned the insurance company using the phone number on their website, or one on the email?

There are quite a lot of wierd scams about which come via "phishing" emails so if you have used the number on the email, or messaged via a link on the email it's worth checking the email was genuine.

If they are really saying it's because of the car, they should be able to tell you more than that - e.g. that they've discovered its stolen, cloned, been written off etc.

Yeah sounds weird, wouldn't imagine any insurance firm would cancel without giving a specific reason (or at least specific to their T&Cs).

Had it once when they increased my premium by like 500% come renewal time because the firm had been bought by another company that no longer covered imports. So rather than declining, they sent me a ludicrous quote, trying their luck I guess.

What car's it on?

Send them a subject access request to get all the data they hold that relates to you. If you're lucky you might find the reason for cancellation detailed within.
