Has anyone let a 16 year old loose in a Citroen Ami? I’m curious to know what the insurance cost would be.

You aren’t allowed to. I’ve read it in 2 sources now, you need a full driving license for the Ami.

Thought the under 17 year old limitation was outside of the UK?

If the AMI was eligible, could they drive it without supervision? I dread to think what the insurance costs would actually be.

What a dopey article , sub headline says you can drive car at 16 then basically the article says you can't .

Came across one of these in France on the roads. It was in a 50 limit but was almost dangerous how slow it was going (flat out). Not sure I'd want my 16 year old in one unless they were confined to 30 limits.

The Ami is designed as a city car and is a neat piece of design, I know the team that built the prototype.

But yes, it is slow as it's designed for a 0-40mph environment.

In the UK most young drivers can apply for a license from 17, but disabled kids can get it from 16.

Nope, that's in the USA. In the UK, it's a licence.

Just had a quick look on the government's web site. You can drive a 'light quadricycle' at 16 - they're restricted to 45 km/h and can't weigh more than 350 kg (i.e. less than an Ami).

So something like this beauty: https://birocars.co.uk/

Personally, I'd rather ride a moped if I was 16.

They'll be able to get a licence from a licensing agency so that they're licenced.

I came across one in a 60 limit in Hertfordshire (Norton Road, north of Letchworth specifically, if you want to see the sort of road). I had no safety concerns about it's speed. Half the country never seems to crack 40 anyway!

Not sure about insurance cost, but if this driving is typical of the ownership demographic, it could be significant.…

Nope. Once they get a licence, they will be licensed. Licensed premises have a licence to sell alcohol.
