running on cooking oil

topgear talked about running on cooking oil and a small additive, instead of deisel. Is this really possible? I sit in a jam all day to work and would save a fortune...

IT only works with Diesels and yes it does work.

THe formula is 98 ml of cooking oil (used is best - pop down to your local takeaway and get there old oil) to 2ml of Kerosene (can't remember which type of kerosene though - check the top gear website for more info).

Yes, 95% cooking oil and 5% white spirit. Leave it for a week or so and you can pour it straight into a diesel. Alternatively you can buy a kit from Germany which allows you to use straight cooking oil.

I thought it was 97% oil and 3% non kerosene white spirit.

If I wasn't selling the oil burner I'd convert.

It has to be a non kerosene white spirit for tax reasons (it comes into a different tax band)

When I lived in deepest Kent my local Fish and Chip shop had a range powered by diesel oil.

If they used their old cooking oil it could have been self sufficient.

(Except the fact that it probably burnt more diesel than the chip oil it used).

Oh and yes the fish and chips was good once you got used to the fact that what is called Rock or Huss elsewhere is called Gurnet in that corner of Hop Land.
