Possible scam/crime?
Discussion
Hey folks,
Wondered if anybody had any experience or advice regarding something a bit unsettling that has happened this week.
The past theee days in a row I’ve had different people turn up at my door asking if I want to sell my Ford Fiesta. On each occasion they’ve had a pick up parked outside ready to take it away if I’d said yes.
Feels a bit off to me. As if they are maybe casing the joint and planning to steal the car if I hadn’t answered the door. Does anyone have any experience of this type of thing. Is it ‘a thing’? Or are there people who genuinely cruise around in pick ups trying to buy cars for cash off peoples driveways?
I will say that the car hasn’t been used for a while, so the tyres are a bit flat and it does look a bit like a car that somebody might be up for selling. But still, 3 days in a row, different people each time?? Something doesn’t smell right to me…
Appreciate any advice anybody might have.
Cheers

Probably pop a sign on the window saying not for sale. If worried about ig How often do you use it?
Bit of a weird theft if people in vans are turning up with numberplates and showing faces. Assuming it is not a classic/desirable prob peeps looking for scrap cars that can turn a profit on if buying cheap.

There was an (actual) heap of scrap metal in my front garden for a while. Every day I would get asked about it, and each day they sent a different guy from the van to ask. There were three of them and they rotated. They were hoping I would give in and just say yes.
Will they just nick it if you don't answer the door? Probably not. If they were looking to just steal, why would they specifically target that car? They could pull any old car onto a tow truck and drive off with it. They can just tell it's an old heap waiting to be scrapped and are hoping you'll give in.
The older fiestas are fun. What model year is it? I had a mk3 for a while and I still miss it.

Pump up the tyres and give it a wash?I had two Oirish chaps take it in turns to knock on my door to ask if I was selling my Volvo, whicn was barely visible from the road.
Eventually I sold it to somebody else and they stopped calling.
They may have been intending to stiff me on the price, use dodgy notes, or turn up with the lads and demand their money back two days later, but as it was, the car went elsewhere and so did they.

I’ve seen a couple of posts recently on another forum where similar happened. One was a car advertised for sale, one an old camper on a drive that wasn’t. Both cases couple of cheeky chappies haggled hard on price and did their best to confuse the situation generally. Once away with them the vehicles mysteriously developed some kind of fault and they were back in touch demanding more cash their way with increasing levels of unpleasantness. Just be careful who you sell too…Eventually I sold it to somebody else and they stopped calling.
