Today is my birthday, I've reached 50,whilst that doesn't bother me the fact it seems I have to celebrate it. SWMBO and The Boy are pissed off at me despite warning not to do much if anything. I just wanted to go out for Chinese. I've never been struck on celebrating it most of my life.

I need you good people not to judge but honestly say I'm either a) my day my way b) put up and shut up or c) other. It might be of some use to know that I'm on anti depressants as well.

I’m the same. Don’t like a fuss and am 50 next year. No party thanks, meal out will do just the immediate family.

I want no fuss, it’s your day so I agree a meal out as you asked seems fine.

I’m a bit younger and am ambivalent to normal birthdays. I like the opportunity bigger birthdays bring to get people you otherwise don’t see often together though. Doesn’t need to be flashy, and not too many people.

Same here, I’m 50 next year and I’ve warned the mrs I don’t want any surprises etc. it’s not me, as has been said, a nice meal with my immediate family and I’m sorted.

A. My day, my way. Do as you please.

On my actual birthday this year, I went to the pub with a couple of people but at the weekend I spent it watching the womens six nations final on my own which I enjoyed. No interruptions, no one to disturb me. However, my aunt was determined to get something arranged and contacted God knows how many people to see what I was up to. Each one told her to what I was doing but she got paranoid something was arranged and she never got invited! She even contacted a family friend to make sure I wasn't doing anything!

The wife is 50 in January, she wants a party, she will organise it, I'm useless at that kind of thing, I'll probably get the immediate family together for a meal, on or around the actual date and spend a bit more on a present.

I'm 50 the following year, January as well, I'm more than happy for it to be like a "normal" birthday, couldn't care less TBH, it's just a number, didn't do anything special for my 40th, apart from a nice weekend away with the wife..... a few years later as my dad died 11 days prior, so wasn't really up for it. The wife had a big party for her 40th, which she organised with her friend who was turning 50.

She likes being the centre of attention and loves the excuse for a party, I hate the former and am not fussed about the latter!

Being excited about your own birthday is reserved for people with narcissistic tendancies - In my opinion.

I don't want any fuss...but it's nice to just go out for a meal with my family (wife & kids), nothing fancy. Weatherspoons would do AFAIC, but we usually go to a country pub. Then home for presents.
When I worked in an office it was nice to bring in a cake.
You don't have to go mad to have a special day.

It's my birthday on Friday. I am celebrating by having some builders round to put some insulation in my cavity walls.

My best birthday would be to go away somewhere nice and pretend it wasn't happening.

I hate birthday parties, in fact I generally hate parties and weddings. I have only been to one wedding I liked and it wasn't my own. I only liked that wedding because it was in the posh restaurant in my village and I managed to sneak out after lunch to go home and have a nap.

I’m one of six children, so never a big fuss when we were kids and I’ve been happy to continue.

My wife, being an only child, takes the opposing view(of hers and mine).

It’s just another day.

Yup. Birthday presents and parties are for kids. As an adult it is nice to get together with family that don't see each other often as you once did, but anything that involves more organisation than moonpig.com is unwelcome. Parties are awful and weddings are even worse.

I've got into the habit of taking the day off (if it falls on a weekday) and getting out for a walk on my own in the Lakes, it been a tradition now for nearly 20 years both pre and post kids. Don't get much time to myself these days.

Otherwise the kids like to make a fuss etc but I'm not overly bothered.

Happy Birthday you misanthropic misery guts.

You are the exact same age as Bengt Lagerberg,

If it makes the wife and your boy happy to make a fuss over you for one day let them have it their way.

I don't enjoy birthdays, I'm uncomfortable with others feeling they have to buy me something just because I have survived another year, I just don't get it. I'm also the same with other peoples birthdays, I hate that I have to send them a card or gift for the same reason. Birthdays are for children, once you are 18 they should stop. If I want anything I buy it, so nearing my birthday I have to refrain from buying myself anything so others can buy it for me. What's the point? Stupid!

I'm the same with weddings and any other kind of celebration, why should others have to change their routine for the day or spend money just because I'm getting married, or some other occasion? When I did get married we did it in a helicopter at night over Las Vegas without anyone knowing we were getting married, so nobody was there, it was perfect.

I like my Birthday. Its smack bang in the middle of summer and I usually have a bbq. I tend not to make a fuss out of the birthday itself but nice to catch up with family or friends depending who is invited.

Also 50 next year, lots of us in the same club!
Certainly no interest in a party or a big fuss. A meal somewhere nice would do me.
