Unfortunately there has been a newspaper article about a fatal car crash in Urnäsch AR, Switzerland last Sunday. frown
The 54 year old driver lost control in a very slight bend and fell around 40m deep into the woods. Looks like he has been on a early sunday morning run to some passes. No passenger or other car involved.

Road doesn't look difficult and crash scene doesn't look like a fatal accident.

Looks to me like a 996 GT3, not sure if .1 or .2.
What amazes me, is that the front airbags where not deployed. Only the driver side airbag seems to have gone off.

More info, including a video of the scene can be found here (in german): https://www.20min.ch/story/toedlicher-unfall-porsc...

Anyhow, drive safely everyone!

ETA: you can see the open glovebox, so it must be 996.2

Looks like it has a completely aftermarket rollover bar and harness setup.

Edit: might be the OEM setup?

Front airbags only explode in a frontal impact, maybe it went sideways

Looking at the intake and wider looking rear wings I'd guess thats a GT2. RIP

Damn. Yeah, looks like a 996 GT2.

And I guess it does what it says on the tin, sadly.

Porsche tequipment rollbar by the looks of things, so official accessory. Strange to see Carrera GT (or style) seats in a 996 though.

Anyway very sad to hear someone lost their life.

Wing backs, quite popular in the 996 gt2 and 3.

It's pretty obvious really.

A down to earth reminder to all those who own these amazing cars to take care, no-ones immortal.

That helicopter looked a little too close to the trees and banking.

RIP. We probably all overcook these spirited drives from time to time. There but for the grace of God.

It's possible the driver had some form of medical problem before the crash and this was the cause of the crash and the fatality.

Still dont get the reason for the post - I dont need anyone to tell me to drive carefully - I’m an adult!

Just propagating morbid curiosity.

And what is the point of your post? Especially a following up 7 weeks after your initial post?

This was a newspaper headline (biggest media outlet in CH) that day. I wasn’t searching for anything.
Lots of similar threads on PH each day.
I was curious of how the accident might have happened and why the front airbags haven’t gone off. And of course because it is a relatively scare Porsche model. If it is indeed a GT2, it is even rarer.

From how I read it, it was a fellow PHer on a Sunday morning blast who tragically lost his life. Morbid curiosity? No not really.
But something that moved me that day I read about it and I felt like posting this on PH.

Did I try to tell you to drive carefully? No, I was just wishing every PHer who went out for a fun drive that day all the best. Others took this thread in that spirit.
I’m sorry that I left you puzzled, apparently so much that you wanted to put a -in your eyes- unnecessary thread back on page one.

Opens up a wider debate on the whole pork “GT” thing .Was thinking John Doe skill levels are not matched to the fine tuned chassis / power delivery .
Are they just too track day orientated, roll bars / cages / chrono , bigger master cylinders etc etc .

Pretty obvious, but no one’s said it as un tasteful as it might come across to petals on here , the guy ran out of talent basically and paid with his life .

Are they just too tuned for the ave Joe ?

There’s a FB site of plenty of bent GT 4 s btw .Used must be a nightmare finding a straight one .
