Does lease car 2yr service require a pollen/b.fluid change?

My lease car is coming up to two years, and I have been told it must be serviced within the 'manufacturers guidelines'. It's a SEAT Mii Electric.

I phoned up the garage, and they said service costs X plus we can do pollen filter + brake fluid.

The car has approx 10k miles on it. I have 9 more months of lease (It was 2 years, but I extended it by 9 months).

I'm not sure if these things are recommended garage being a bit cheeky addons, if they're things they 'recommend', or if they're contractually required.

I phoned up SEAT's support and asked them and they couldn't tell me, they just said follow the manufacturer servicing guidelines.

The only part of the manual that mentions it says:

The service intervals and groups are usually based on normal conditions of use. If, on the other hand, the vehicle is under adverse conditions of use, some of the work must be carried out before the next service period or even between service intervals.

Conditions of adverse use include:

Using the vehicle in areas with thick dust, using the vehicle mostly in situations with a lot of traffic and stops eg in a city, using the vehicle mostly in winter.

This applies especially for the following parts: dust and pollen filter, air care allergen filter.

The service advisor of your specialised workshop will gladly inform you about the need of performing service work between normal service intervals, always considering the conditions of use of your vehicle.

So this suggests to me that if you need it you need to get it changed. But I've done 10k miles and the car is kept in a garage, plus it's an EV with regen braking.

Just wonder if anyone has any clue as it'll save me £150 odd.

The pollen filter you could easily do yourself with a cheap chinese version of the filter.

Brake fluid is either on the service plan or isn't - the manual should tell you. If it is within the recommended mileage and age then I'd not bother - especially if you are returning the car shortly.

I think the terms of the lease are that things have to be done by SEAT themselves, although even that is unclear when it comes to stuff like this, like you'd expect to be able to replace your own windscreen wiper.

As for the manual, it is pretty useless. It doesn't give any service intervals at all. Even the servicing it offers no milage/interval information, just says to consult the car itself, which simply says service due in X miles/X days.

Perhaps I'll chance it then and make a copy of the relevant parts of the manual.

Normally on VAG cars the first brake fluid change is at 3yrs and every 2yrs thereafter.

The pollen filter is normally every 2yrs.

Lease Co will only check - if at at all - to see that's it's not missed the service completely
