Citizen Promaster, opinions please.

I'm really tempted by the Promaster BN0169-03X, but at 44mm I need to ask if any of the collective here knows how it "wears". Now, I know that sounds vague, but I'll have even money everyone knows what I mean, for example, I have a 44mm Traser Outdoor Pioneer which , on my girly wrists looks fine, but my Casio Marlin with green bezel which is also 44mm, looks like I'm wearing the wristwatch equivalent of Big Ben,

Despite that, I'm torn between the BN0169-03X




and the BN0159-15X



both reasonably priced good quality divers, despite the fact I can't swim but they look cool for the average wannabe uber walt Diver like me.

This will be my first Citizen purchase and it is purely for the reason they look pretty good, robust and VFM watches, given the increased cost of Seiko these days.
I'm thinking the latter for £190 is pretty good value while I save up for my Vario 1945 Automatic.

For that price I'd ignore both of those and have a look at the Citizen NY0040, which IMO is a genuine classic.

Thanks for the replies fellas, now that's very tempting.

I already have an SKX in all black, so I was just trying to expand my (cheap) collection with something a bit more colourful. then again, I see there's a full lume option of the NY0040 with the 50W suffix which looks pretty good, but none in the UK. There's a couple on Chrono 24 however.

One's been my daily for 4 years, ditched the rubber strap for a bracelet, good workhorse of a watch the promaster divers I think.

Usually a few on ebay too. I have the full lume version on the bracelet, excellent watch.

I have a 7 inch wrist and had the red one you posted.
It wears fine and was not too big. It did however look very cheap, the red chapter ring in particular. Stock photos hide it well.
I bought it for 120 at Argos and sold after few months.
As others have said, Ny0040 is where it’s at. I am thinking of getting one

That’s €60 worth of Prodiver 0040. Keeps great time, highly recommended.

New they’re probably a bit overpriced at RRP.

Nearly-new they’re an excellent buy. They lose value.

If you get lucky (like me) and find an underpriced one, then they’re an exceptional watch. Mine keeps great time too.

The equivalent eco drive diver is a terrific option and is/was standard issue to RN dive teams apparently. Or at least something similar from Citizen.

Thanks for the informed replies Gents. I am now a solid convert.

I'm rapidly losing love for Seiko and the prices they seem to demand / fetch. Although my last purchase was a Seiko "Honda Cub", (and very nice it is too) I have never had a citizen and the 0040 ticks all the boxes for a daily with a good movement and a very attractive look.I intend to keep an eye out, grab a decent condition seconhand one and stick a black Nato on it, then alternate daily with my SKX.
