Petrol cap & all and sundry fallen off!

Filled the old chap up with petrol and when I put the petrol cap back on the rubber washer that seals the cap holder (if that's its technical name!) to the car body came off. The rubber washer is all rotten & corroded.

Anyone else had this problem? Is it just a matter of removeing the offending washer and glueing on a new one.

There's nought wrong with the cap, it's the bit the cap attaches to that has come away from the car. Don't need a shiny petrol cap that only get's seen when you lift the boot lid!

if u get stuck I've got an original cap somewhere in the garage. Don't need it now I have a shiny leven cap that only gets seen when i open the boot

The cap is fine. The cap screws onto a bit that sticks out of the car body, right? You shove the petrol nozzl into it. Well, that is the bit that has fallen off. The cap is fine & dandy!

Here is the bit the petrol cap screws onto upside down & out of the hole into which petrol pours. As you can see the rubber washer/seal is all corroded.



Here is the hole into which the bit the petrol cap screws should be attached. But isn't...

we're on the ball this morning then

as for the petrol cap problem...you could try Sargents Motor Factors on Birches Industrial Estate...they might be able to find a suitable rubber washer thing

Hmmm, maybe I shall try Sargents. Just hope that all is required is a the washer, and nothing has fallen down the ole!
