My father-in-law has decided to go on a trans South American rally in May next year and would like to take some shots of the trip out of the front windscreen. As he is navigating the last thing he wants to do is try to hold the camera. Any advice please.

might it be possible for him to buy a cheap video camera and a basic mount. that way he can video the whole thing and there is no hassle at all.

Definitely agree about the suction mount, one just like the above held on valiantly as we drove around the Nurburgring for two days and even stayed fixed when someone crashed into us*

My SLR-style camera fitted on just fine and took good pictures. With a suitable remote lead, you should get some good pictures with everything inside "in focus"

How rough are the roads going to be and how much dust and much will be flying about ? Certainly get the suction mount but might be best to put a small camera on it as per the packages here camera, then wire it to the AV in of a video camera in shock-resistant packing in a bag mounted out of the way in the car.
