Hope nobody on here was badly affected.

I can't help but be amused however, by the classical understatement in the following:

Fire officer Neil Owen told BBC News: "Looking at the lorry, it's actually sort of totally written-off.

Oops, C-NILE virus struck and I posted before I'd finished. Meant to add, I wonder whether anyone thought it was a potential terrorist act ... given warnings about "tanker bombs"? - S

The tanker repotedly contained hydrogen peroxide.

Sounds more like someone's trying to increase the IQ of the Essex population by getting rid of all the blondes.

I saw that on the news..

Ouch.. I wouldn't like to have been driving near it when it went off..I would also like to know how the hell it exploded !!

Agreed. Wife's a hairdresser and she has litres of the stuff. Although in small 2 litre bottles but even so. What set it off?

Don't think its ecplosive in and of itself, but makes a wonderful accellerant once you have a fire going (lots of spare oxygen floating about...)

Wasn't it a H202 leak that did for the Kursk?

It can be, given the right conditions. It releases enough energy just by decomposing to oxygen and water to make it useful as a monopropellant for rockets (as well as being useful for the oxidising half of a bipropellant system).
