Just set up a domain for my wife that forwards all mail to her hotmail address.

How can I set the email address in hotmail to that of the new domain? Please tell me it's possible? :(

Why not just use the domain name for e-mail?

login to hotmail

click options on the top far right then click mail on the left menu then click message replies and set your reply address to whatever you like.

That's the puppy; thanks!

Unfortunately the "sent" address is still the hotmail one - any way of changing that?

ahhh they've started using proper reply-to headers - sorry your're stuck with just a reply address then.

Last time I used this (long time ago) they set the address as per your reply address too. I would imagine anti spam systems would go nuts with this now though as it originates from a hotmail server.

What, with the fact that the From: and Reply-To: headers don't match?

Maybe it is time to change to the domain's webmail service then?

Any other free webmail services that will do the job? GMail?

OK, that patently wasn't going to work, so purchased a "POP box" from them so she can use their webmail service.

Only problem being their webmail is ab-so-lute-ly pants.

So, are there any decent webmail gateways that I can use to access a pop account? The idea is that it is totally mobile and accessible from anywhere so using another machine or outlook account is a nono

Help!

Have you tried vodafone.net - works well for me - I use it for non essential emails - you get a text alert on your phone when you get email from it, and you can send emails direct from your phone. (Obviously you need to be on Vodafone for the last bits to work, but it's a free webmail if not!)

Hope that helps

Cheers Chris,

Presumably you can't change the address of its POP server though? I'm now looking for a web portal that will allow me to view mail from another POP box without downloading it.

Failing that, does the vodafone jobbie let me alter the reply-to and from headers like hotmail won't?

How about this gmail? I have seen some people on here talking about it, but it seems to be limited availability at the moment.

Have you tried http://mail2web.com?

Put in your e-mail address and POP3 password and you're away.

OK, I have tried playing with that but it is even more complicated - now have about 3 accounts/passwords on various sites

Surely it can't be difficult to write a web/java application that will access a POP mailbox a la Outlook but on the web (ie without downloading mail?)

The 123-reg webmail software is awful - it stores everything (including outgoing mail!) in one directory so that you can see whole conversations!

Quite frankly it's a bloody mess and I would never have signed up for it if I knew it was going to be so awful.

So, I have a domain with mail forwarding, and I want a web based email solution that can use it. Hotmail was perfect but reply-to/from fields are inconsistent.

There must be a way of doing it - anybody know?

How about GMail? Anybody got any spare invites?

Please help, tearing my hair out....

Also:

Does GMail have the same limitations as Hotmail with regards not being able to alter the From: field?

Edit: And what is it with this new craze of threading "conversations"? What's wrong with putting them in date order, or at least having a choice?

Please drop me a mail if you're interested in having something set up for you by me. I admin a large South African webmail service provider and I'll hook you up. If I understand you correctly, you want POP & webmail access?

Cheers
