I Would appreciate any advice on how good they really are too? Also how much trouble would you be in if you got caught, and how likely is that?

use them sparingly. Turn off when in town. Turn on when hooning.

Inevitable its when your not hooning ie in town you will get zapped and the bloody thing will jam them. As happend to me. Just got told off and we agreed to remove the jammer from the car. (it went back on a week later)

be aware tha scamera partnerships have changed the software so that if your vehicle is targeted and shows an error code, this is listed on the central database, you might not even be exceeding the limit! next time the police will arrive and impound your car formany weeks.

Look on speedtraps.co.uk for the WARNING message relating to the use of these. I removed mine!

UPDATE 14th March 2005: FANTASTIC NEWS..... Totally out of the blue, the CPS have dropped the case and no reason was given to why.

I believe that because my friend was going to put up a fight, with I may add, the assistance of a top notch solicitor, the CPS got cold feet and did not want to expose themselves to a failure. If they had failed they would have clarified the law to existing users of jammers. Jammers will be banned under the proposed law so maybe they have decided to wait it out until the law is set in stone.

As I have always predicted, the CPS finally realised that they did not have a case and dropped it.

look at the page about jammer law and see the problems you will experience by its use.

These units will be banned very shortly and the penalties will be very severe when you are caught.

I had an LRC100 on my car and, after weighing up the pros and cons decided to remove it.

The case highlighted here but was dropped by the CPS actually cost the individual over £1500 in fees and lost his car for 3 weeks- do you consider that a victory????

once banned, fine, they will be illegal. Now they are not.

The guy was a victim of Police and CPS abuse and should consider suing them. He cannot by definition have been guilty of perverting the course of justice because he wasn't committing any offence that the course of justice could have pursued.

You are better off with a broken front plate or a front plate mounted on a swinging arm arrangement which moves back from the vertical as you go faster (like the old airspeed indicators on early Tiger Moths - there's nothing new). When you stop, or are stopped, it reverts to the vertical. It could be electrically locked in place, I guess, that way the max fine is £30 and no points for a first offence. A lot safer than a jammer and cheaper too. You just need to cut an aperture in the front panel slightly bigger than the plate and mount inside this with the mechanism. A support surround in aluminium, a pair of simple hinges and a couple of weak torsion springs. There, it's designed already!
My friend with a very modded turbo-Mazda runs with no front plate. He has done so for over 2 years and has never been stopped. Is that a record?
