Oi!
Mr Mac, we'll have no more of your pro-war sexist rhetoric here!! As an anti-war lover of women I find your comments offensive.

Well a vaguely true story which was probably all propaganda tosh anyway, still it makes a good story and a great shot of Rachel Wieatshername's rear end

It is loosely based on their snipe chap of the same name. They don't think they actually had a dul type thing going on though...

I like the film but I regard Enemy at the Gates as a bit of a missed opportunity, it could have been so much better.

Stalingrad (1992) is supposed to be far superior, unfortunately all that seems to be available on DVD at the moment is a dubbed version with Allo Allo accents, and I am waiting patiently for one in the original German with subtitles.

The river crossing scene is pretty gritty and does make you realise how appalling it all was...a la Saving Private Ryan.

I've seen the original in German with subtitles, makes Saving Private Ryan looks like a disney cartoon Definately worth tracking down. Not a happy ending either

Dreadful movie - utter tripe!

As suggested above, Stalingrad is much, much, much better and has a truly poignant final scene.

I wasn't really expecting a happy ending given that only a few thousand of the 6th army ever saw Germany again.

I checked amazon to see if the situation had changed, but still the only DVD available is the dubbed version

I saw it Australian TV, we have a multicultural channel that does it own subtitles and only shows foreign films

This offers both by the sounds of it.

Not a bad movie I thought. So long as it’s not taken seriously.

'It wasn't very realistic'.

Don't know about you but I wasn't at the battle of Stalingrad so can't comment! Not bothered by the accents; for true authenticity it would need to be in Russian and then where would you be?!

I have read books on the battle of Stalingrad, and, apart from the river crossing and the sniper battle, little else in the film showed the way the battle was fought.
