I read this article in the SF paper today -- interesting (or disturbing) the margin over is 11Mph before automatic fines will be issued!

I'm torn on this. I like the way the CHP don't seem bothered by a (sensible, non-weaving) 80mph in a 65 zone, but it's probably time to do something about the spike in road deaths in California following the pandemic.

There's an intriguing comment towards the end of the article about how many "occurrences of street racing" would trigger the installation of a camera. I'd like to know more about that.

I can recall back in the 80s when I lived there driving sensibly at ~90 mph in a 70 and all the cops from the oppo direction would do it flip their blues & twos for about 2 seconds waiting to see you tap your brakes in their mirrors. To them I guess it meant "driver paying attention" so no further action happened.

No speed cameras in California!

No wonder people want to live there.

To think the UK has had them for over 30 yrs!

Apart from Californians.

"Over the past few years, the movement out of the state has accelerated with a record net outflow of 407,000 from July 2021 to July 2022."

Same in Texas.

They started to creep in but in 2019, Governor Abbot signed into Texas law Bill HB 1631.

The law bans local authorities like city councils from installing or operating any speed or red light camera system.
In addition, any evidence obtained from such camera systems is inadmissible in Texas courts.

People used to shoot them out previously.

Texas also has an upper speed limit of 85mph, the days of the 55mph roads/states a pretty much over.

The issue at the moment in America with antisocial driving is the 'take overs' which occur at junctions where people do burnouts in front of spectators which invariably go wrong, speed camera's won't do anything to prevent this.

Dim Bulb Abbott clearly hasn’t been to the suburbs north of Dallas. Darn red light $cameras are all over the place. My brother got nailed last year, though looking at the image he was in the wrong…

I would love to have more red-light cameras around here. An ever increasing number of dicks seem to think Traffic Lights are optional.
