JLR to build battery factory in UK
Discussion
Great news for employment, and being completely clueless, why are the UK government subsidising the costs? Is it to show its dedication to tackle climate change?

Every major industrial development everywhere in the world happens with tax incentives, government backed loans, or other similar schemes.
How British to piss all over one of our rare bits of good news. Would you rather these useless turds just gave the money straight to their mates as usual? Or just let them get built abroad so we can continue in our wonderful economy based almost entirely on a few people swindling and everyone else selling each other £5 cups of coffee.

That article says they are locating the headquarters in the UK, it doesn't say anything about a factory.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-66172158

It's being subsidised because that's the only way to make it commercially viable to build it in the UK.
That. Hopefully it will create some momentum for British industry, and creates an EV skills base UK needs.

These days multinationals have far more power over governments than vice versa so they will go where they get what essentially amounts to the biggest tax-funded bribe. Welcome to modern capitalism.
