Dumb Aston Martin Vantage question of the day
Discussion
Confirm. Yes it is a tracker 'tag'.
You might have been given two.
AM cars of that era had a tracker system (have forgotten the name) which needed one of those tags to be in the car when driven.
Provided the subscription is up to date, if there is no tag in the car, then that would trigger an alert from the tracker monitoring people.
If no subscription, then when ignition is on, I think a red light remains illuminated on the dash.
Considering the time elapsed since new, it is possible that the tracker battery is weak or dud. Think that results in main battery drain. Some owners have the system disconnected.
Defffo the earlier type of tracker tag! Was Cobra at the time, but I think they got bought out by Vodaphone who run the scheme now.
Dont keep it in the car though, somewhat defeats the purpose! That said those early tags were so big you couldn't just put them in your wallet like you can (just about) with the later vodaphone tags.

As said elsewhere it is definitely an old tracker tag. I think it was originally run by EuroWatch but as Adam said it may have changed over the years. It may be worth contacting them, if you can find a number, to see if the subscription is still active. It’s unlikely the tag itself is still working though, as they are sealed units and as far as I know the internal batteries cannot be changed. It would connect via Bluetooth when located close to the tracker, prior to engine start, and trigger an alarm to their monitoring department if the connection failed. As you know the tag itself is rather large, but one advantage of the older system was the ability to pair a mobile phone to the tracker, and that could be used as a substitute which saved carrying the cumbersome thing with you. Pairing had to be done in real time though, whilst speaking to a EuroWatch person. HTH.

ETA I’ve just read the Aston Installations link posted by M1AGM. That tells you everything about the history of it and how it used to operate. I had no problems with the EuroWatch tracker on my first Vantage (V8), but I had the failing tracker battery drain issues with my current car. It materialised when the car was just over three years old, and I subsequently had the newer system fitted as a result. No problems since. The tags are a little smaller too and it’s easy to change the batteries.
