Hello all,

Im thinking of getting either a RX400H or a 450H for my next car. Has anyone had both? What is the difference, is it worth the extra for the 450?

Interested in people ownership experiences etc. Thanks everyone 🙂

My rx400h is a great old barge, had a few issues with it over the last 7 odd years but for 16 year old car with nearly 160k miles you can't complain. Its stuck around for 6+ years, far longer than i keep most cars so that must say something. And i have no intension of letting it go yet.

Thank you, that s good thread. I'm just trying to decide if its worth going for the 450h over the 400h.

I own both at the moment. Had RX400h from new - 15 years and 175,000 miles. Also had the RX450h from new - its a Mk4.

Are you taking about the Mk3 RX450h - 2009-2015?

My story is that I was going to chop in the 400 for the 450 but decided it was still OK when it was 100,000 miles, kept it, and sold another car. Under real life conditions the performance and fuel economy of the RX400h is only marginally less than the RX450h.

I would say you cannot go wrong with either. They are both very reliable and very flexible cars, comfortable, relaxing to drive, and good for use in snow for the few times we get it every couple of years.

Any specific questions - fire away.

Thanks TUS373 and sorry for the slow reply!

I was holding off buying a car because I’m just starting to build a garage, but my car is getting rather shed like and I’m going after new clients….

I’m coming from a sporty coupe and I’m looking forward to having a different sort of car.

Anyway, I’m thinking of spending up to £7k which puts me in the position of an older 450h or a 400h - perhaps spending more like £5k.

Is the 450h worth the extra at that price point in your opinion?

Either will be good cars. Only have experience of my 400h. Which I have just px'ed yesterday (even though a year ago I said i would keep it). Sold on because I am now retired and 30 mpg when you are never going to get any more wages just seemed a little extravagant. Had it for 7 Years and 75k miles, now on over 160k. Paintwork is showing its age but that is about all. Been one of the most reliable cars I have ever owned and I am sure I will miss it when it goes next week.

No idea if a 450 is worth the extra, but it will be newer which will have its advantages.
