HI all

had a random cheque through the post from Talk Talk for £99 and a bit about 10 days ago. Thought that's odd, must be from when I tried and failed to go with them earlier this year. Paid it in.
Few days later another cheque, exact same value but dated a few days later and with a different cheque ID on it arrived. So not a duplicate post.
Hmmm, Ive refrained from cashing this one in as something must have gone tits up at their end.

Even though I obviously hate all broadband suppliers with a passion, not sure if I should be cashing in erroneously issued cheques.

Pay them both in.

The worst that can happen is they come after you for fraud.

When they ring you about this, tell them you will just get the person they want, then put the receiver on the table for 10 minutes whilst you finish your cuppa.

When you pick it up again, start talking in something that sounds vaguely English. Make them repeat everything they say. Answer any questions as though they were talking about something totally different. Tell them you need to talk to the supervisor (the wife) and put the receiver back on the table for another 10 minutes. Get Alexa or whatever to play some totally crap music.

If they last the distance, promise faithfully to sort it out immediately and give them a reference number. When you hang up, forget the entire interaction straight away before you do something stupid like actually doing what you promised.

Enjoy the rest of the day and repeat the whole thing over if they are ever daft enough to ring again and if they do, deny that the reference number even exists.

I don’t believe there is any fraud, it’s obviously a system error and they’re entitled to request the money back if they ever realise their mistake.

Thought I'd wait a few weeks before paying in the second cheque. Did it a few days ago.
Anyway the day after there was a debit on my account to the exact same amount with UNP next to it.
So looks like they were able to pull back the money from the cheque I paid in.
Pretty sure the first one I paid in was never taken back out again though so i'll call that a win.
