Spyder cancelled order!
Discussion
So since April 2022 I've had an order with my local OPC for a spyder 718. I specced it and paid the deposit of £5000. Duly received my paperwork and was told that the order would be fulfilled late 2023. I was quite happy with that, as I have a 997.1 cabriolet that I purchased new in 2006. So open air driving in the summer was catered for. Also my 2018 991.2 GT3RS also bought new would suffice for some fun too.
I buy my cars to enjoy long term and my RS must surely be one of the very few one owner cars in the UK judging by the fact that less than a 100 were delivered.
So onto my gripe. I received an email and phone call from my sales guy , who has been brilliant and always straightforward with all our dealings. He informed me that my order has been cancelled by Porsche due to the fact the model is now discontinued. I had been reassured earlier in the year when news had broken that the Spyder was to be discontinued but orders would be honoured. So from my perspective I feel very disappointed as I placed that order in good faith only to be let down at the eleventh hour.
Also to rub salt into the wound I noticed over the weekend that 2 spyders delivered in June 2023 are advertised for sale by private individuals with hardly any mileage on them. It just begs another question as to the allocation process of these cars. Mine was to be a long term keeper as my other cars are. Any one else had their order cancelled so unceremoniously? Rant over, but I do feel that Porsche need to take a long hard look at how they sell their cars.

If you placed an order recently I could understand, but given you have had an order for some time and a good relationship with your OPC I can understand your frustration, add to that that some cars are already up for sale it grates me also.
Porsche ultimately can cancel orders, reduce allocation to OPC's etc and there's little the OPC or you can do unfortunately,

Sadly an 'order' and an 'allocation' are two different things. Anyone can place an order (with a deposit), but you are not guaranteed to get a car until an allocation is given. I'm assuming that since placing your order the OPC has never mentioned when you may get an allocation?TBF, the OPC would/should have known about allocations for the rest of the MY23 builds (until July) earlier this year, so it's pretty poor communication from them IMO.

OPCs are full of sh!t. I've sat and watched my local OPC resell numerous GT products over the past 24 months, all with 20 miles on them.
Correct ....... Didnt some guy sue an OPC fairly recently after his GT allocation was given to someone else ?Sorry for paywall content .... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/cars/news/pensioner-ge...

I did ask that question, unfortunately the reply was that only one car per centre was the allocation across the country. Of course that one car already allocated to some deserving soul....
Did you ask that when ordering or when they had to break the bad news?I'm guessing the later.

The Spyder RS, incidentally, wasn't even out when I ordered my Spyder.
As I said in my earlier post, an 'order' and an 'allocation' are two different things. Your order is your intent to buy, not a confirmation of a car, your order only turns to a confirmation of car once you have your allocation. This means your 'order' can be moved to any car and spec if your dealer will do it.So, if the dealer wants to transfer your order to a Spyder RS allocation (when once becomes available to them), they can do with a push of a button. I very much doubt they will though as the RS waiting list will be a mile long and full of customers who have bought lots of other car from them.
They can’t meet the demand so they just play as they want. You are at complete mercy of the dealers and if you don’t know the secret handshake you will never get in the best cars. It’s a weird and sinister way of doing business that I really dislike and puts me off ordering anything from them. It’s too murky for my liking. Unless you want a car they have in stock a new order with Porsche, at least in the U.K., is a complete joke.
Assuming that you don’t need the £5K then ask for it to be moved to a Spyder RS. A nice letter outlining how disappointed you are and how you appreciate that it’s a long shot for an allocation. Plus a trip to see the DP in person for a heart strings type chat, very nicely done obviously. Then wait. You have nothing to loose except the investment potential of the money. I would drop in every 3 months or so just to remind them you exist. You absolutely never know with the Porsche merry go round of allocations. I am sure if you hinted that you might PX the GT3 then you would shoot up the list a bit. Good luck.
Probably moved your order to one of their mates lol!
Been a lot of game playing in last few years but things are changing! A number of people have been played regarding orders! If an OPC has 30 people deposited for a specific model they get a larger allocation than if they only had 10 but out of say 30 orders only 10 cars will be allocated to the dealership and fewer of those allocations will be non flippers/ mates of DP!
I think it has been location specific as some OPC have been a little fairer than others!
But to be fair to the dealership April 22 order would have been too late for a Spyder order and really they should have been more honest with the chances of actually getting a car. I ordered a a BGTS June 21 after I was told I was unlikely to get a spyder but after an 18 month wait I was told I was next on list but decided to cancel and order a 992T instead.
