Really stupid question I know but.....

I've never travelled abroad with a really nice watch but this time I intend to. I've flown many times with my Omega and I would just take it off and put it carefully in the tray as you go through security.

This time I want to take a nicer/more expensive watch as well. I really don't want to be putting that in the security tray. I know the chances of it being stolen are slim given that there are cameras everywhere but I don't want to take the chance and I don't want it dropped/bashed.

Can you request to keep it on your wrist as you pass through the metal detector?

Thanks

Could you not wrap it in some sort of protective cloth and put it in your jacket pocket/bag if you're just worried about bumps?

Can't imagine they'll let you keep it on, though I have no experience of this.

Stick it in an inside jacket pocket.

Put it in a zipped up pocket of a jacket/bag that's going through the scanner. Been doing this for years, never an issue.

I could put it in a zipped pocket but then I'll have to carry a bulky box of some kind as I don't want it getting scratched up.
Thanks

This is what I read on an American forum and needed confirmation if the same is true in the UK.

Cheers

When I used to be overly worried about scratches I'd put mine in a microfleece pouch (that my sunglasses came in) before putting it a pocket, but really, if it's an empty pocket what's going to scratch it?

I always put mine in one of the numerous internal pockets in my rucksack.

Never had to remove mine, Rolex with metal bracelet. If it bleeps, they will easily pin point it with their wand the other side of the security door thingy.

Airport security always seems pretty random to me, but I haven't had to take mine off for quite a while.

Why would it get scratched up inside a pocket? confused

Are you worried about it getting scratched by your shirt / jacket sleeve, when wearing it on your wrist?

Small cloth bag, then carefully into a pocket in your hand luggage bag.

It’ll be absolutely fine for a short trip down a 10ft conveyor belt.

I rarely, if ever, have to take mine off at UK airports, but sometimes have to on the way home from foreign ones.

As a diabetic I get picked up for secondary scanning due to my glucose monitor and insulin pump setting off the metal detector, the titanium shoulder doesn't help either so I just wear mine knowing I will end up in the body scanning machine.

When I went through Heathrow last month they were body scanning more or less everyone, just keep it on and apologise plenty of people walk through still wearing their belt / watch / necklace / phone in pocket etc.

A friend of my wife was wearing her late dad’s watch and put it in the tray when she went through the airport security. It was never seen again!! ...so the cameras didn’t help.

A guy I know wears a 30k Daytona he has a place in Spain always flys through Brum and refuses to take it off as he tells the security guy will you replace it if it gets lost, they check and wave him through. How do I know it’s true, I was there in March on our way to Spain

Manchester you don't need to take them off now.
