Thank you. I know the Mayfly. V. nice place. We wanted something closer to The Watercress Line.
More votes from me for the Flower Pots, Woolpack or the Bell with the Swan coming in behind (still good food, but not up there with the others.
I would avoid the Horse and Groom (Gruesome Horse) for food, it's not been great for a while.
A great alternative to the list above is https://www.tichbornearms.com/

Fantastic location but the food is terrible. If you are prepared to go that far The Greyhound on the Test is fantastic and worth the track imho.We wanted something closer to The Watercress Line.
The 3 Horse Shoes in Bighton is nice.
Northungton Arms
Purefoy arms is not far from Alresford and worth the drive if food is what you are after.

Anybody know The Globe, or The Swan, both right in Alresford, I believe?
Ain't been for a few years now, but it Alresford's The Globe pub has some interesting WW2 history inside (I assume it's still there, the 'history' I mean). On the 26 September 1943 an American B17 Flying Fortress “Lady Luck”, carrying a full bomb load, got into difficulties over Alresford. Captain Robert Cogswell ordered his nine crewmen to bail out remaining on board the aircraft himself in an attempt to steer the bomber away from the town.
The plane crashed just east of Alresford Pond.
Captain Cogswell having jumped to safety himself shortly before it crashed.
The plaque in Soke Gardens honours Captain Cogswell of the 303 Bomb Group, US 8th Air Force and his conduct in saving Alresford from a potential disaster. There is even a Revell model kit of the said plane.
Soke Gardens can be found down the lane to the right of the Globe on the Lake pub at the bottom of Broad Street.
One of my treasured possessions is this oil painting, found in a charity shop. It's huge, and of the B17 bomber in question.
I just managed to grab it (hanging high up on the back wall - I'm tall! - just before an RAF guy was looking up at it. He asked me if I knew 'what it was and was I going to buy it?' I replied 'Oh yes, it's Lady Luck and yes, it's my lucky day!'
