Just on the news - 10,000 Newcastle fans have been at the stadium to welcome Michael Owen.

Does nobody work in Newcastle?

Everyone has probably been given the day off for this impromptu religious festival.

Still, at least it's true

No seriously, football is massively popular up here and it wouldn't surprise me if people are taking a longer or later lunch break to see the latest signing. After all everyone says we've just signed Michael Owen" - hmm, strange that non of them are shareholders!

Football is bloody annoying!

Still like the gag about the reason Beckham wouldn't join Newcastle was because he heard about what the 'Toonarmy' did to Asia...

He's right. But Owen is a big thing for Newcastle, I remember when Shearer came and it was on the front cover of all the papers, the most Newcastle had ever paid for a player (£15 million, I still have the news paper cutting somewhere). Him coming is seen as a big success for us, and it'll give us more of a chance is Championships.

Its probably mostly kids who aren't at school btw, who hang round the city centre anyway

So you reckon this Martin Owen can single handedly raise enough morale and spirit to fight off allcomers like Alan of the Rovers did?

They simply can't believe that somebody as big as Owen has signed for a small club.

Seeing is believing, I suppose.

Small club? You've obviously never been to st.james, its honestly frightening the noise in that place when its full of 50,000 screaming geordies. Small club my arse.
