Dave's lying flat at the moment so they are bringing in his CD player so he can listen to that with his head phones on. I found out how to make DVDs and VCDs for when he can see his TV but now I need to record a normal audio CD of me babbling into a microphone on the PC.

Can anyone recommend a cheap sound recorder that will convert to MP3? I know there's Windows Sound Recorder but it only captures short soundbites and I need to ramble for an hour or so.

Any help appreciated. :)

I think there are settings in sound recorder that allow you to record for a reasonable length of time, not sure

I use cubase (there is an entry level model cubasis) but I think even this will to in depth for your requirements, but it would definitely work

I installed a bit of software for audio recording and editing for a client who had *no* money to spend on software a couple of years ago, and I found Audacity for them.

www.download.com/Audacity/3000-2170_4-10325373.html?tag=lst-0-1

It should do exactly what you need, and it's free.

IIRC the user interface as a bit fiddly, but after a bit of practice, you should be fine.

Other than that, I would recommend Cubase, Cool Edit Pro or Soundforge..... but those babies cost money!

I second Audacity - very well featured, easy to use and best of all free. As far as commercial software is concerned, I would recommend SoundForge.

Entry level cubase for £20 in PC world. I think you can get it cheaper elsewhere (quick google)

Buggery-poo. I had to get the CD done quick so I bought one online. Can't remember the name of it now but it's nice, simple, and does the job well. Cost me £20, but I think I'll be using it a lot so it will pay for itself.

Thanks very much anyway.
