Been to the motorshow today and pleased to confirm the new cayenne (particularly the S) looks so much better in the flash!

For a start it is much bigger than you expect, the shape is pretty curvy (you cant tell this from a photo) and in the preview lounge they have one with 20" wheels which totally looks the dogs gonads.

Best of all you get a free scale model, fit birds and top notch breakfast/lunch and refreshments!

Makes the X5 and the ML look clunky and the prices which have been announced means the S is 10K less than the ML55!!! Bargain 350bhp at £44K

Even Porsche hater Flasher admitted it was the biz...

Sorry, it's a dog. That nasty shiny trim round the windows, the cramped interior and Audiesque rear-end do it no favours at all. VW have made a far better fist of it with the Touraeg. Just my opinion, mind :-)

For a 4x4 off road thingy it's better than anything else on the market...

That doesn't mean I don't think it's ugly. It's one of the ugliest cars I have ever seen. For some reason they have tried to make it look like a Porsche and it's so big that the nose looks totally wrong.

That said, it was superb inside and very good value for £44995 or whatever it is.

It made up for Bennno having to stand and watch Jeremy Clarkson Obliterate a Boxster with a Tamora on the TVR stand..

Agreed, it ain't the prettiest thing I've seen, but it looked like it was hewn out of the finest German granite (though Mel started slagging it immediately)

Great to meet you guys yesterday. Flash, my missus thought you picked a wonderful car there mate - it looked corking, in both colours.

PS - confession time - I got PW to autograph a TVR poster for my old man. I mentioned Flash's name and he was only too pleased....

Flash you contradict yourself, you agreed yesterday that for a 4wd it looks better than a ML or X5 and the nose looks ok in the Flesh. Said so yourself Flasher??

Big thing was that its a 350bhp Landcruiser sized beasty for not much more than a Boxster S!

Ok so it proves that a Tamora can out drag a 2.7 Boxster, big suprise. Perhaps if they threw in a couple of bends or tried it over 24 hours the result would be different - bet you £20 a GTO Porsche will finish ahead of a Tuscan R at Le Mans next year.

Mmmm , you have a selective memory Bennno I actually think it's very ugly at the front. Yes it is "better in the flesh" but it's still ugly. Mainly because they have tried to give it a sportscar nose and it doesn't work. The back looks excellent,no complaints there. It doesn't look better than an X5 at all, I never said that. The price however, is much better and is sure to effect the X5 prices...

If they threw in a couple of bends you would see an even bigger difference, and without the need for (to quote Clarkson) "Nanny controls" doing the driving for you. You should know that a Tamora is quicker than a Boxster because you have seen me lap one at Donnington.

What a silly statement Ben. Porsche have been racing at Le Mans for decades. Anyone with a half a brain would know TVR won't finish ahead of them on the FIRST attempt. But I bet they outqualify them. And I also bet everyone except you at Le Mans will be cheering for them too. Do you cheer for Germany when they play England??

You never seem this argumentitive in the flesh chaps?
It's not the world's prettiest motor but what 4x4 is, although I did flirt with the idea of a last shape Rangy
I'd say if you can get one of the 1st cars buy it, hoon around in it for six months, and then pass it on at over list to someone who doesn't want to wait for one free motoring!

That's cos Flasher is about twice Bennno's size

I must just interject and say that the Cayenne is an ugly old dog, but if I was in the market for ML/X5 it would probably be a contender. I think it has to be lumped in with these sloan ranger 4x4s, not with the rest of the Porsche model range.
